I cannot imagine what could make these do this
Shredded Pink???
What cultivars are they, Carol? Has it been overly hot there lately? Sometimes the heat makes brugs do really weird things (deformed calyxes, flowers, etc.). Have they bloomed normally before? Or, maybe you're onto something cool! ;)
I thought they had bloomed before... I think one may be Jean Pasko, and the other First Day, I am not sure.... I has been hot but it was hotter before... At first I thought bugs did it but these have not been eaten on... The edges are very clean and smooth, in graceful uniform curves, more like they were cut with a very sharp knife... which of course they weren't.
I have a Georgia Peach, and Apricot Reese that have done that, recently. Not sure why. It's usually temporary.
That's quite interesting yardqueen.
Thanks for sharing this in case we come accross something like it.
I hope it is temporary! I just wonder what would cause it...
Interesting post. Are the stigmas/styles and stamens deformed or twisted too? They often are on my shredded white brug, just wondering if they are they same way on the temporary shredded flowers as well?
It's ususally a weather/climate related issue. I had some of mine do that recently, too. It happens mostly in the spring and fall when the weather is changing.
My Georgia Peach did that the first time it blooom but the next bloom looks like it may be normal. I will take a picture of it tomorrow and yet you know.
Joan
Hi Joan! I really think these both have bloomed noramlly before also, but on one plant there were 2 open flowers and 3 buds in various stages of maturity that all were "messed up" and I guess just one maybe 3 on the other one. I sure hope they return to normal!
