First time growing this one, bought in a little starter 2 inch pot,now about 4ft and in flower for the first time, white on white,I mean this flower is really white.
Wished I'd caught it on it's first day.
Alocasia Plumbea
I've wanted to hybridize with this one, but have never seen pollen on it. See if you can find any! If it is truly sterile, then I think it must be a legacy hybrid from the late 1800s, the parentage of which is lost to horticulture.
LariAnn...I am growing this one also & I have yet to see any pollen on mine either. I have several blooms on it & not a drop of pollen.
I notice the tag reads, "Jurassic Dark"; if you want to see something that really deserves that name, check this picture:

In fact, before I found out that "Jurassic Dark" was a selection of A. plumbea, I thought that what I had was the real "Jurassic Dark".
What do you think?
OHHHH! I think I want one!!!!! Thats what I think!!!!
Are those available for sale on the retail market down there yet????
The only one who has them now, as far as I know, is ME! I bought out every one at that nursery, and since they didn't know what they had, it's very unlikely they can order more (if they even could). I mean, what can they do, pick up the phone and say, "I want some more of those plants but I don't know what they are?" They actually thought the plants were the Alocasia "black stem', which is the A. macrorrhizos "black stem", a totally different plant. If they order that, they won't get these!
Right now all of the ones I have are quite large (4 feet and up) so I have to wait for pups. As soon as they bloom, I'll do some selfing and plenty of crossing. I had some for sale in early Summer but they all sold out within a week. I will keep you in mind as soon as I have pups, which should be soon, or by Spring at least.
Spring, eh? Where do you have all those pics on your website, LariAnn? I've been snooping around in there, but I haven't run on to where pics like those are. Please, put me down for a pup. Great find, Tman!
AuntB,
You find the pics by clicking on the plant names that show up on the "species" page and the "hybrids" page. There are a LOT of pics there, so take your time. If the plant name is in green, it's a link, if not, it's not!
Here's the species page:

Have fun!
Oh, I'll have fun alright! ;) Thanks for the link! So much to read and see and sooooo little time!
