Red crossvine hardy to south part of Zone 8

Frisco, TX

I've heard of a red crossvine that is evergreen to Zone 7B. I have a tangerine beauty now that is hardy but the colors are somewhat muted and dull. I thought the red might be more vibrant. I would love to hear about any evergreen vines for this zone.

Thanks

I haven't seen red yet in the cross vine, but this one is a bit more vibrant than the tangerine. It's evergreen hardy and is the first item to bloom in the garden every year, and always has a couple blooming the rest of the time. I did harvest some seeds from it this year.

Hi Rj
The picture looks very close to the tangerine beauty, but yes... much more vibrant. I appreciate the offer but I think I will wait to see if I can find the red. Thanks, I will let you know if I find the red.

lauri, might try OnaLee's Seeds. She is listed in Let's Go Gardening. Always seems to have seed from plants that are hard to locate. Just a thought.

Thank you LouC, I will give that a try. I noticed that you have zone 8a for Desoto. I have heard that they are reveiwing and updating the zones. Do you know where zones 7b and 8a start? I'm just north of Dallas.

Lauri, is this what you had in mind? Not solid red but a lot deeper shade. I have never seen a solid red.

Josephine, that is beautiful...I'm not sure, I have only heard of it myself. Do you know the name of this vine?

That is my Crossvine Laurie. I don't know of any different name, but I have three and they are all different.

I've never heard of a red one either, but there are red trumpet vines.

lauri, haven't heard about the zone changes. I am 14 miles south of downtown Dallas...just off 35E
