Blooms for 9-30-07

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Anyone else have any blooms for today?

Here's Ring of Fire, not a great pic but a pretty flower

I didn't even go look at mine today. It's been kind of nasty during the late afternoon and evening. My bloom season has slowed down with the cooler days and I don't even remember how many I have left to bloom. Next year, I guess. I'll still be here cheering on everyone who has a chance to purchase and enjoy them during the winter months, tho.

How can I resist this temptation.... Blooms for today ~ two days ago the H. sabdariffa bloomed for the first of hopefully many times.

YES ~ bloom for today!

I went to the home show with some friends, so didn't have time to take pics.
However, I ended up getting a new male guard dog, to grow up with Tuni and protect us from hibiscus conniving, plotting thieves!
Any suggestions for a name?

And, here they both are, plotting their "protection" plan.

wow podster, that's a hibiscus? It's gorgeous!

It is a tropical annual. I have to be at home to catch the blooms. They open late and close early. I think it takes the shorter cooler days of fall to trigger blooms.

I hope to either get seeds or overwinter it by taking cuttings. The calyx is edible and commonly used in salads, teas, sauces and jellies.

This is an opening bud.... and my first year on this learning curve.

That's cool. I had heard of this one, but never looked it up. I have grown the annual Abelmoschus Manihot in the past and really enjoyed the way it grew in the flower garden.

Now that is a neat bloom! I really have been seeing alot of yellows and think I like them.

This is Copper King Malva moscheutos or the hardy Hibiscus. I guess it fits in here. The fall foliage becomes quite attractive. http://davesgarden.com/tools/journal/showimage.php?eid=108871 taken last fall when the plant was given to me.

This is a plain old tropical NOID. It would seem they are blooming fast and furious in these last days of summer.
I have enjoyed it for years, in a pot and pretty....

Thank you ~ I do love them all. Even those I haven't met yet...

Very pretty pics, Podster.

Brugie, I love that picture - the color reminds me of lemon chiffon :) Can you tell it's nearing lunch time here in So Cal, lol??

Cat, your new puppy is totally adorable!!!!! And it's a super cute duo pic too :-) We'll obviously not be able to break into your yard now ;-)

I've got some nice blooms from both Saturday and Sunday. How about some of each day?

First up is two from the Cinnamon Girl previously known as Brown Sugar.

Oh yeah, the CG was from Saturday. Here's another Saturday shot - four blooms on Palm Springs. This bush is now taller than I am (I'm 5'3"). You can't see them too well, but this is planted with a couple different coleus, which really makes the colors pop (I think).

I've got to show this second Black Jack because it's so different with the little petaloid. Super cool :-)

And here's my favorite bloom for Saturday - the lovely Dragon's Breath. It was so pretty, I had to adorn my kitchen :-)

I'll post a couple from Sunday later, I've got to sign off now. Nighty-night!

Love the Palm Springs. Still has a way to go to reach my height (5'8)

Very pretty blooms Amaranth00! I need to be peeking thru my fingers... don't need more plants to overwinter. I'd have to knock out a wall! 8 )
