Please help....keyboard has mind of it's own!

I don't know what I did, but my keyboard and/or mouse do what they want to do most of the time. I have a Sony laptop that I bought new 9 months ago. I don't know much about computers, but did find keyboard options in Windows directory and have been trying to get things fixed on my own, to no avail!

I'm guessing I turned on some keyboard shortcuts somehow. Can't figure out how to fix it. I don't want any shortcuts and I don't need an handicap accessility. The biggest problem is when I move the curser and position it to start typing, left click to start and it will highlight one space, click again, highlights a full word, click again and it's the whole paragragh. After several clicks, the highlights go away and I have to click again to highlight the one space, delete it, fill the letter back in, then I can use the arrow to move the curser and type without any problems. Unless I have to move the curser to correct a mistake and it starts all over again. Also, as I move the curser, it will automaticly highlight any text.
