Will Lemongrass overwinter in Zone 7B?

Bronxboy ~ I lost mine in 8a but it was in a large pot. Others tell me if it were in ground, sheltered area and mulched, it would have made it. Is yours in ground?

Southern Herb Growing says it will withstand temps of 10 to 20 degrees with heavy mulching. Cut it back drastically in early winter and mulch or lift clump to winter indoors in a container.

It's in the ground. I had to move it because it was in my raised beds and I had NO idea how big it got.

So it now has it's own spot. I'll cut it back, mulch and see what happens.

Please let us know your results and if I may suggest dig up a small clump to pot and protect ~ just to hedge your bets...

Good Idea:

I'll do both and try to take some pics

Well so far, this stand has withstood 2 freezes without a problem. Not a hint of frost damage.

I'm going to watch this thread, wishing you luck. I have kept one in a pot for years, and every year I cut it back , divide the clump for friends , and then haul it into the kitchen for the winter. Do you use yours for cooking?

Yes.

I decided to use this stand as a experiment.

Watching here too and look forward to hearing a report on it next spring...

Just found this thread. Just started my lemongrass from a half dead stalk from the market. I hope your patch makes it over winter. Mine is indoors now in a big jar of water (still a baby plant).
