Dimmer(AKA) Kim
I just wonder if this is working
Dimmer: That is one weird looking apple thingy! Where did you buy it? Is it really a fruit of some kind? Maybe the gnats are eating that thing but I would be afraid as the fruit rots it would attract other insects? Well ... I live in Florida, LOL and I bet it would attract them down here where we have so many insects! I sure am curious as to what the name of that thing is. Hey! If it works to keep the gnats away how great is that! You may be onto some new form of organic insect repellant there!
I think that you can find them in the grocery store 3 for a $1. I got mine free a friend sent them to me I did used them Up in Michigan and It did keep the spiders and I swear the mice, They last about 6 months I put foil on the bottom and put them by my heat vents so I decided to try around my plants. What that saying If it works don't change a thng Well its works so far. They say that when they fall from the tree it is ripe, As far as I know it is some kind of repellant, Let me look around I may be able to find it and the name
Kim
my mama used to use them

your very welcome, i remember it because my mama would never use no type of poison
on anything,
a kin folk of mama would bring her tubs full of them
,she would put them in the garden and flowers.
Can you get them in Florida ? do you know if she had them in the house too
Kim
not sure where she got then from, just from a kin folks, but its been so many years ago,
she passed away in 1995 at 90 years old
she put them in the house, ill never forget that,i was raised up in a shotgun house
and in the woods, and i mean woods, there at that time there was only one other house out there.
so we had all kind of bugs and critters
When I was in Michigan we had lots of land and the same thing bug and critters also so for the last few years I put them in the house in the fall just by the vents now I will put them all over'
Kim
Woo Hoo ... I found it in Plant Files: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/54097/
Thank you Dimmer and Starfly!
Lin

Kim
Yeah ... I printed it out!
I am not believing what I am seeing............this is amazing.................
OK I saw a whole bushel basket of those things at the grocery store last week and had no idea what they were for!!..LOL...Ohhh I am going back tomorrow to buy a bunch and try them out! Thanks for the tip Dimmer and Starfly!
Ooooh, I sure wish I could find them at our grocery store!! I had heard the name Osage Orange before but have never seen the tree or the fruit. We need these here in Florida with all the bugs down here!
I just bought some from ebay!! The total for 8 of them with shipping was 13.95. I want to give them a try for spiders and gnats and I have a friend who is having quite a time with mice in her garage and she's going to try them for that. It will be a fun experiment!

Wow! You mean you can buy the fruit on line??? I gotta check that out! Wonder if they will allow them to be shipped to Florida? There are some fruits that can't be shipped into the state ... just like California, I guess they are worried that some insect or disease will come into the state and end up in the citrus crops and damage the state citrus.
It's too cold here the majority of the time to have to worry about critters sneaking in! LOL I was searching for the Hedge Apples and up pops eBay. I looked through several of the auctions and found one I thought was reasonable in cost and in shipping so I went for it. They claim they pick them after you pay for them so they are nice and fresh. My friend will split them with me and we'll just see what happens! :0)
