ok heres the deal. this year i tried a caesalpinia pulcherrima "compton" from top tropicals. i put it in the ground in april, positive there would be no more freezes.... and guess what on easter sunday we woke up to 28*F! brrrr! it didnt take too kindly to that (neither did any of our plants, but especially not this one). so it died. now i got some seeds, and i REALLY dont want to mess up. how is the best way to germinate these?
i have a ? for all yall experts!!!!!!
I have the yellow and now this one too. These couldn't be any easier to germinate.I soak them overnight in warm water, plant in a soil mix and stick in the greenhouse. You can file or nick opposite the point but this is not necessary.A friend has the Yellow ones in Santa Monica and he is forever digging seedlings out of his lawn.
"You can file or nick opposite the point but this is not necessary."
what do you mean by "opposite the point" and how warm the water?
I use Hot tap water. Not scalding, just hot to the touch. If you look at the seed-one side is much more pointed than the opposite end which is rounded and wider.
C. gilliesii is more pointed than C.pulcherrima but its still pointed enough to tell.If you got these from Lazlo they are fresh seed and will have no problems germinating.
they are fresh... i got these from a DGer out there w. u in california in a SASE. thanks for the info.... i'm going to do this right away!
