Does anyone grow iris from seed?

I haven't, but want to. Inanda (Ginny) does all the time. She has a cool way of starting them.

What kind of iris are they from?

gardengus,

I’m interested, what do you want to trade for?

Well I am not sure. I harvested them from a garden I care for. They are NOT tall bearded or Japanese .If I was to guess I would say LA but I just don't know.
The seeds in this photo are from my iris.the pod is shorter and seeds lighter in color and fatter. But again I don't know exactly what '' I '' have . I posted a photo and asked ,someone said LA iris.
The'' I'm not sure was ''in answer to above question.
Dean... Will be glad to send for postage.

How much should I send for postage? I've never done this before.

Every one does it a little different . I will send seed (are you in the address exchange ) then send you a D-mail on what it cost , just send the postage amount back.
How many you want to try ? a dozen each sound good?

I would luv to try some. What can I send you?

Here are Ginny's (Inanada) instructions for starting iris seeds in the toilet tank"

"Reason is that iris seed have
a growth inhibitor so that when they are ripe in the autumn and fall
to the ground, they do not germinate immediately.

Iris seed require wet -snow or rain - for awhile, in order to remove
the growth inhibitor. This is done by soaking seeds and changing the
water daily or.... as I do it, in the toilet tank where water is
changed every time you flush.

After 3 weeks or so, I putthe seed still in panty hose baggies, into
a ziplock bag and then in fridge for 12 weeks or so. Keep checking
them afer 6 weeks or so. If I see germination starting, I pick out
and pot up into coffee cups. This way you can keep track of your
seedlings and you don't have lots of space taken up on your shelf of
pots not doing anything. After the cold of the fridge, I put baggies
in a warm place for a couple of weeks. Germination should start
quite quickly now. After a couple of weeks, I put any ungerminated
seeds back into fridge for a couple of weeks. So in and out, cold and
warmth till all have germinated. Seeds that still haven't germinated
by May, I sprinkle onto the ground and mark them well. Then you end
up with a patch of iris grass seedlings.

With LA seed, I remove some of the 'corky' seed cover and then float
in water, changing water every couple of days. A dash of javex added
to water doesn't hurt either. Pot up when i see germination. "

Dean, LA is suppose to be Louisiana. I am not sure that is what they really are, they look like them but the plant files say zone 6 and I am zone 5 so who knows what they are (just pretty)
