side effects of flu shots?

has anyone here experienced fever and chills after one of these shots? my better half has been very ill the past month with flu and an infection. after he was pronounced on the road to recovery by the doctor on monday, he was given a flu shot. i know that the flu shot can't cause flu, but it's been about 36 hours and he's had a low grade fever and chills. i have a call in to the doctor, but in the mean time, i thought maybe someone here could ease my mind. thanks, debi
