New Pond

Colorado Springs, CO(Zone 6a)

Since I love coming to this forum and seeing photos, I thought I would post my newly finished/still a work in progress pond.

I dug it myself with a shovel and it is about 300 gallons. The deepest spot is about 20". I just put in some comet goldfish and got some wonderful pond plants from a generous DGer (spiral rush, canna, umbrella plant, alocasia, water lily and pickerel).

The surrounding stones are temporary until we can afford some nice slate. Who cares though, I just love relaxing by it and listening to the sound!

Susanne, it looks great! I didn't have enough space on the side of the house to bring any equipment in, so had to hand dig too. I just finished my 3rd pond, and my back is telling me this is my LAST one,lol...
Great job!

Wow, 3 hand-dug ponds!! I'm impressed. That is hard work, now I know for sure. This past week I've been planting a lot around it, which in itself is difficult work! I didn't leave much walking room behind the pond....

I definitely want more, but I think winter will keep me from it for at least a little while.

Congratulations on your first pond! Very nice!

art_n_garden.....you'll get hooked soon....ponds are so relaxing, you'll want another one or a larger one at some point....
I started with a water garden in a huge bowl, and now have 3 ponds!
:) Enjoy!

I would definitely call myself hooked.
I have found a neighbor's cat sitting on the edge of it with his paw up more than once recently. Argh! Any help for that? (Besides chasing him with my 70 lb dog and a broom?)
