CLOSED: Newbie wants your EXTRAS for postage

Port Vincent, LA(Zone 8b)

Hi I am new (August) to DG and new to gardening( may 07). I have 2 acres of land that I would love to fill with beds of flowers. If anyone has any extra's, I'm in zone 8b and will take anything. I don't have anything to trade right now but I certainly will later. I love this website. Nicest people. This is the look I'm shooting for. I know it seems very ambitious, but after working for 37 years I am ready to give some love back to the land the Lord has blessed me with.

I have Solomon's Seal and purple heirloom Iris, also a variety of ground covers like snow on the mountain, ajuga, sedums, periwinkle, more I can't think of the names right now, could also spare a few Ice Follies narcissus bulbs, and a Stella d'oro lily.

Middleton, TN(Zone 7a)

I would like to say come on over the the Mid South Gardening forum , we have several members very close to you , one is actually in Denham Springs ,too. They had a Round up there in LA a couple of weeks ago, sorry you missed that one.

There is another in Tupelo, MS. - weekend after next ( Oct.6) that some from LA are coming from there to Tupelo. We all try to get together at least three times a year to swap plants or seeds. It is great!!! You are welcome to come to the round up ( you may even want to ride with some LA folks- they are a very friendly bunch) and we will load you down with plants while you are there. And as a newbie you do not need to bring anything other than yourself. I know , I was a newbie this time last year and they loaded me down with plants, LOL. I have really greatly expanded my plant collection and more importantly my gardening knowledge in the last year or so. Welcome to DG and I hope to see you in the mid south forum soon..

Hi Jeri what a priviledge for you to offer me plants. I followed all about the LARU. Pictures are fabulous. Yes I will dig if you show me what to do. I love playing in the dirt. Thanks again so much. I'm in the middle of a drape order that I have to install this week, but the first day after that, when its convenient for you I will come. Debbie

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

Jeri

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

Oh shoot Jeri, there you go having fun without me again. Drapelady I can also help you out but I just can't dig this week.

Cindy now if you can come you know there is room here for alot more. Bring Becca and we'll have a mini RU!!! We need to plan another trip to Forest Hill after the winter. I can't squeeze anymore plants into this non-existant GH. LOL!!!

Jeri

Port Vincent, LA(Zone 8b)

Hi ya'll, sorry I had to take care of supper and cloths and grandson's homework. OK, they are all in bed :) my time! Yes Jeri, I'd love to meet some of my gardening neighbors, so you just let me know when.

Port Vincent, LA(Zone 8b)

To everyone who has been so kind to offer plants, seeds, bulbs, cuttings. Thankyou Thankyou Debbie

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

i just know i would like to play with all of you la. folk. wish i could come and frolic with yall. lol.

hey..............does anyone have any sugar cane? and who is the resident sugar cane expert?

and cindy, did i send you any of the hibiscus cannabinus? i have never seen anything grow as tall so fast. these things are 12 - 15 ft. tall and they got a late start here. not a lot of flowers but the stalks are huge. now i see why they are making paper out of this stuff. i think they would look cool to plant them in rows or in a little forest like bamboo but without all the hassle of bamboo. this was by far my most fun plant this year.

Port Vincent, LA(Zone 8b)

Hi mamajack , me again. just dmailed you. No I am so sorry , but I don't know anything about sugarcane. And I wish you could come play in the dirt with us too!;)

Debbie

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

Hey Barb no you didn't send me that canna shame on you. LOL I did get my daylilies and they are soaking and doing great. Don't grow sugarcane up here in the north. Jeri I would love to come again but I think our time is short for planting. You know I will be back down there in the spring. Yes I really want to go to Forest Hills again in the spring. I was down in Alexandria Fri for a DR appt. I really wanted to scoot over to Forest hill really bad but I restrained myself. I have way too much that still needs planting and beds to clean out. Gee 18 months ago I was begging for plants too. Just look what you can get yourself into here at Daves. I think I am going to try and repair the greenhouse for the winter. My DH told me he wouldn't help. I think I can jury-rig it to be able to start seeds and put those things you gave me in there. I know the white hyacinth bean is an annual so I will have to keep it growing till next year.(hope to or until it makes some seeds. )
Boy we have had two solid days of rain.
Gosh Debbie I have hyjacked your thread!!!! Anyway I will be glad to help you get started with some plants just depends on how much postage you want to pay. If Jeri drove a bigger vehicle she could haul them for you from Tupelo. She drives this miniature suv that her husband bought (I think he was secretly trying to inhibit the amount of plants she buys. We are all headed to Tupelo next weekend. We really have a good time together. MidSouth rocks. Debbie you will not find a more caring ,generous bunch of people. I know Tupelo is a long way for you . I am so sorry we didn't know of you for the RU at Jeri's Cindy

Port Vincent, LA(Zone 8b)

HI Cindy I am trying to adjust my scedule to go to Tupelo so I will be able to meet you there.

Jeri I hope to see you at your house one day next week. Maybe you can show me how you get the plants ready for Tupelo. I'll be glad to help you if you want me to.

Port Vincent, LA(Zone 8b)

Debbie
