Giant Hornet (Vespa crabro germana)
Smiling_Carcass,
Thank you for adding your images of the European Hornet to BugFiles.
It has been pointed out to me that you loaded it as the subspecies Vespa crabro germana.
This subspecies is present in Europe, bit not in the U.K. In the U.K. the hornets are the subspecies Vespa crabro vexator which is easily distinguished from other subspecies by the yellow head: http://www.muenster.org/hornissenschutz/hornet_vespa_crabro_vexator.htm
If you agree, I would like to move your images to our BugFiles entry for that subspecies here: http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/go/4684/
