I have a night blooming jasmine that bloomed for the first time last night. I'm so disappointed! The fragrance was very strong, but I found it pretty nasty-- kind of like one of those artificial cherry air fresheners you hang from the rearview mirror. Yuck!
It's covered in buds right now, so maybe I'll give it this flowering cycle to win me over, but if it still smells the same to me, I'm going to have to get rid of it.
Disappointed with Cestrum nocturnum
Many people find it sickly sweet.....and most pervading. Some love it! I think it is best planted a bit of a distance from the home and at the back of something due to it's untidy habit. It is a weed in Australia and spreads all over so cut the seeds off or it will be everywhere.Give it another chance ...but at a distance. :)
I'm still waiting for blooms :( - pretty soon it'll be time to dig it up and bring it in...ugh!
Chantell, I'm glad you got some. Mine did not bloom at all the first year (2006). It bloomed great this year. The frag. was quite strong but I love it, DH could do without it. In my gardening this plant is quite a thirsty one. That's kinda of a pian which I forgive because of the scent.
Kubileya, sorry you were dissapointed. The strong frag. is definitely an acquired taste.
Ahhh, maybe next year...I've got a few of them going....the ones in the ground from my Flower Scent Garden order the other from another sweet DGer. Hope they'll over winter ok for me...sadly the one last year did not. Any thoughts on soil or light?
Chantell-mine are starting to bloom again right now (3rd time this summer), so maybe there is still time for yours to bloom this year!
Thanks TL...I'll wait and see...if not there's always next year.
