I have 6 gallon of water that water my plants with I do this on Sundays as far as how much time I never checked just wonded if alot of you have that much or more. Do you also let your water sit
I fill mine up after I water than let it sit till I water again. I also put in plant food in about once a month and let that sit with the water I use 1/4 tesp per gallon and things seem to be doing just great.
Just wonding
Dimmer (AKA) Kim
Just want to know how much water
I wick most of mine...........but if you are going to water with your av pot sitting in another pot..........only leave the water there for 15 minutes.............whatever the plant doesn't use.........throw away..................
Hi Kim: I water my inside plants about once a week, just enough to see it trickle out the bottom of the pot. I use water that comes through a purifier. I try not to let them sit in water because that could cause root rot. Now, the house plants on my deck and in the florida room are another story. I have so many plants out on my back deck that I just turn the hose to water them and it still takes me over an hour. The ones in the Florida room I fill a watering can from the hose and water until it trickles out the bottom, just like the inside plants. The plants hanging and sitting on the front porch, I just use a hose out there too. I have no idea how much water it takes to water all my plants inside and out ... I probably am better off not knowing! :) I just know for inside, I keep filling a 2 qt pitcher over and over ... or a 1 gal jug. Sure is a lot easier watering the ones outside!
It sounds like your plants are thriving, so whatever you are doing, I would not change a thing!
Lin, she is watering once a week.................I am sure there are many ways to be successful with watering................My Aunt Jo grew the most beautiful african violets all her life under her kitchen counter with a flourescent single light................each week she would measure 1/2 cup of water and pour it in the bottom of the bowl each av sat in.................they stayed beautiful and blooming???????????? The plant always soaked up that 1/2 cup of water.
I guess I put this in wrong when I water my plants it takes about 6 gallons I don't let my plants sit in water and the only water that stay are in the bottom of my wick trays,Once a week with all the plants it takes 6 gallons of water.
I saw once that there was a thread that asked how long it took to water you plants I was just asking how many water do you use to water your plant, May be I should give up on this question I am not asking it right but this is what I have to to water my plants
I just use tap water...................you are using some purified water????????? How nice.........I work on my plants at least 2-3 hours a day............(on the inside plants).............the outside takes about an hour a day..................just watering and not grooming.................
On my plant stands I have to always be aware of a dead leaf ,e tc.....................
Kim: I am sorry .... you said it right! I just went back and read your first post .... it was me who didn't read it correctly the first time! I am getting old!
That's a smart idea to fill your containers and let them sit .... any chemicals will dissipate that way.I have a couple of gallon containers that I fill and do like you said you do .... I put the plant food in also using a 1/4 tsp for each gallon of water! I'm not sure how many gallons of water it takes to water everything in the house. Probably @ 4-5 gallons for the AV's and other generic house plants.
Now, I am really curious as to how much water it takes to water all of my plants, since I have a lot in the house, some on the porch, some in the florida room and tons on the deck! I might just have to quench my curiosity one of these days and keep filling gallon containers to get a total. It will probably shock me! But, we live in an unincorporated area of the county so we have well water .... no water bill! They are bringing city water into the neighborhood so we will be hooking up to city water in the next couple of months. I think I will still use the water off the well for watering plants though. City water sometimes has a lot of chlorine. I know our well water has a high lime content but I'm not sure what other minerals or chemicals are in it. I just feel safer using the well water cause we've been in this house 32 years and thats what all of my plants are used to. Gotta start collecting gal jugs to fill!
Sounds perfect what you are doing with your water, Dimmer. Yes, especially if there is any chlorine in the water, many growers like to fill their jugs ahead of time and let the chlorine dissipate just like Lin said. Seems you've got it down to a science knowing just how much you will need.
Lin
I used to have well water were I lived in Michigan so most of my plants were brought up that way. Than I moved to IL and that is city water and thay are doing just find with the change in water maybe that is why I let it sit ,and the water almost taste the same as it did up in Michigan. Could be why it took a while for my flowers to start blooming they had to get used to the water same as me LOLO thanks now I don't feel so dumb
Kim
I think you are doing a Great job Kim!! You have no reason at all to feel dumb. I love this Garden where we all learn little tips from everyone else!
All I do is bug people and ask questions.................that is how i learn.....................welcome aboard!!!!!!!!!!!
