Gommers Variety

Santa Rosa, CA

Hello Barry and all

I really like Gommers new variety. Looks like a cross of 5th Dimension and maybe your Georgia's Pearl. Do you know whether it fades Barry?

I'll leave you with Rosalind an Aussie variety that I really like. I took this pic of my plant at home and somehow the light was just right for it.

Have a great weekend you all.

Super pretty pic, I love the dark background - really highlights the bloom :-)

Awesome flower. I don't have any hibiscus like that, and that makes me want some. The only thing I have is a swamp mallow. Guess I need to look for some. Thanks for sharing that beautiful blossom with us. Elaine

David, I've grown Yolanda Gommer for three years, I think, and the color is not always as dark as the one I posted, but the color you get is pretty much the color at the end of the day here in S Texas.

You posted a nice Rosiland photo, one of my favorite parents. Anyone with an interest should apply pollen to Rosiland blooms in your cool season. Crossed with my namesake variety (Barry Schlueter) has produced 22 really excellent seedlings including . . Hyperspace, competing for Hibiscus of the Year at this time for the American Hibiscus Society

Oops. Hyperspace's pollen parent was SUMMIT not Barry Schlueter as I said.
Here's one from Rosiland x Barry Schlueter,
DREAMY

peace and goodnight,

Love both of those Barry! Is Matt going to have them?

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 8b)

Both are lovely, but I like Hyperspace the best!

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Matt, if you are reading this, I want hyperspace :)

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Now I want Dreamy AND Yolanda Gommer.

When Amanda and her inlaws visited, they saw another Rosiland x Barry Schlueter seedling they really liked. It is way too new to say much about except that both plant and bloom look excellent so far. A year from now I'll consider whether to patent it for commercial sale to Hines or ask someone like Matt to grow it for a little income for us. Great colors, very full double . .

peace and joy,
Barry

Barry isn't even joking - this was one of the most stunning flowers I've seen, SOOO full of petals and gorgeous!!

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

That one is a beauty--whoever ends up selling it I'll definitely be keeping my eyes out for it!

All I can say is "Wow". That is one beautiful bloom. I have to ask....are there two hibiscus with names so close as Rosiland and Rosalind? I think they might be one and the same, but I want to make sure. Mine was tagged Rosalind. If my tag is wrong, I need to correct it. If there are two separate hibiscus with those names, I'd love to see the one called Rosiland. Thanks.

I think Rosiland was probably a typo, the only one I know of is Rosalind, that's what yours looks like.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I hoped it was right, but I've seen it a couple of times and thought I should ask. Thanks a bunch.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I believe Rosalind is correct; I probably introduced a typo.
Sorry,
Barry

No problem, Barry. I just didn't want to miss out on another beauty that produced such a nice offspring.

Mol, Belgium(Zone 8a)

I would add that the correct name, being a dutch one, for the Gommer's variety named afTer his wife is "Jolanda Gommer" and not "Yolanda Gommer".

Regards

Carlos
