I thought I would begin a new segment to this thread since the other was getting kind of long
Part 1 - begins here
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/749677/
If you didn't start with us on August 4th, plan to join in soon after September 26th, that's the next full moon.
I understand right after the full moon when it's beginning to wane is a good time to start on a slimming plan.
Start with your diet at waning moon for example directly after full moon. In these moon phases the body can most easily get rid of impurities and excess water weight.
It is easier to start, progresses easier and more rapidly.
We do not really have a "Diet" but are making an effort to slim down by eating healthy and increasing activity.
Dieting by the moon (Part 2)
That is good to know, I'll be flying out to Boulder on the 30th and I will be drinking gallons of water for a few days before I go in preparation for the change in altitude (I live at 14'.) The 26th will be a good time to start the H2O. Boulder is such a healthy living place; I am hoping there is not an unhealthy calorie in the city. LOL
I've read that Colorado is the healthiest and trimmest state in the union... you'll be in good company
Have fun
Hey Dovey! I just saw you post here and I know absolutely nothing about the moons cycles, but know I need to lose 25 lbs deperately! I was always slim until I hit 40, and I just can't get rid of this weight, and my food cravings are horrible. How can dieting be affected by moon changes? I'm sorry to ask questions, but I am curious.
LOL Dovey, I'll stand out in Colorado for sure (I'll be the wide one.) :-)
Oh cool! A wonderful kind soul posted the weight loss time table for the next two months
( Gardening by the Moon: September-October Timetable) http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/774010/
Begin diet to lose weight:
September's next date is the 28th.
If that's a good day to start then I figure it's also a good day to get past a plateau.
October dates are the 6th and 10th.
Well...here goes....I HAVE to loose some weight!! So I am starting on the South beach diet today....since I had already made plans for today I won't wait until Saturday..(Maybe I'll start on it AGAIN on Saturday)
I'm sitting here with a cup of DeCafe tea...with splenda....YUCK! Now I will go boil me an egg....put it on a wee tiny plate with some cheese and enjoy breakfast....gone is the toast with peanut butter....at least for 2 weeks!! Phase One here I come!!
Jo
Hi Jo,
I hear your pain... I started while we were on the road and I'm surprised I didn't gain weight.
Since I began I've lost 5 pounds... not a whole heck of a lot, but better than nothing right?
Slow weight loss is healthy, so I'll take that as a consolation over not dropping 10 lbs and 2 dress sizes *S*
Dove
Dovey....you don't have as much to "loose" as I do.....LOL 5 pounds would show on you!! Jo
Okay, confession time. I haven't done well at all so far. I gained a couple lbs when we went to St. Simons and ate all that wonderful fried seafood but have dropped that ... but now am right back where I started at the beginning of this journey. :-( Friday is my anniversary so know I probably won't do all that good then either ... although I mainly want a steak, maybe some asparagus and I love baked sweet potatoes, so that wouldn't be a problem for me. I need to get started back on SB, also. I do very well with that eating plan and have kept my weight off for 10 years give or take. I did Atkins for a while but now believe that SB is a healthier way of eating. I've been going through my fall and winter clothes and some of them are fitting just a wee bit too snug to suit me. Nothing that getting back on SB can't change, though. :-)
~Susan
Susan....Dust yourself off and get back on here with me.
I'm having lunch now...1/2 advacado filled with low fat cottage cheese....with 4 slices of pickled beets on the side.....HMMM how long until snack time?? LOL Jo
Yeah Susan... What Jo said!
Don't let a temporary setback discourage you... I probably ate enough and drank enough at the recent Round-Up to put back some weight too, Everyday is a good day to start again.
I have to agree Jo's avocado lunch sounded good
Here it is the 3rd day and I am not STARVING....except for BREAD!
I know I have lost some weight because I have had to get up all night to P.
I hope when Phase 1 is over...so I can enjoy a piece of toast with peanut butter again.
I can do this....I can do this....sure I can! Jo
Elaine....sure will! I'm doing rather well....better than I thought possible. Drinking more water. Jo
I can't remember what you have going on Saturday, but I'm in your corner cheering for you.
I think I'm doing better this now, when I first started it was going real slow, seems to be improving this month.
*Note to self ... drink more water
Dove
Saturday the 6th is the day the moon is right to go on a diet....Jo
I'm off to my 2 volunteer jobs this morning (Church and Widowed Support Center)...so I have packed my lunch...and had a half boiled egg, a piece of bacon wrapped in a slice oe peppered Turkey breast...and tomato juice....for breakfast....this is more than I usually eat for breakfast....also, for my mid-morning snack I am taking some walnuts.....afternoon snack some of that string cheese...that tastes like cardboard to me!! Jo
Dieting by the moon, who knew!?
Good Morning, Jo, Elaine, everyone else,
Well I've been gone from DG for well over a month due to computer issues and sick kids, sick self, then sick kids again. I hate all the back to school germs!
I came back to DG yesterday, and this morning I see this...
Perhaps it is a sign, seeing as yesterday was the 6th and I rode on my stationary bike for the first time in... Hmm, longer than forever. I didn't even have a second helping of dinner.
Unfortunately the sudden urge to reduce didn't come out of nowhere, I got on the scale and saw a very ugly number!!! Funny how 195 doesn't seem like the end of the world but 200 does... I am a horrible stress/anxiety eater, and worse I eat when I am bored. Apparently I've led a very stressful, anxious boring life the last few years LOL.
Wishing you all, all the best!
edited to add, I just read Jo's post that crossed with mine, apparently yesterday was the fourth rather than the 6th. I guess I have more problems than just weight gain.... :)

I just got home from a day of working...plus stopping at the sotre to check on prices of stuff I will need to make Sloppy Joe's for 100 people!! YIKES!
It has been very easy to stay on this South Beach Diet....but I do look forward to Phase 2.....I even bought an envelope of Idahon Instant mashed SWEET potatoes...so I can be ready for them as soon as I hit Phase2!!
Tomorrow is the correct time to start a diet....come on Tombaak...join me.
How are the girls enjoying the lovely playhouse?? Jo
Yippee....Let's Roll! Jo
I'm in!
starting again here too...running to catch that wagon, lol
Catherine
I got up this morning ONE POUND lighter!! Jo
Congratulations!!!!!!!
What a good start; I have been traveling and am sort of afraid to step on the scales. Maybe later today I'll chance it. LOL
Congrats on the pound Jo.
The girls are both getting over being sick, but are enjoying the playhouse immensely. They spent most of summer in there since it was delivered.
Melissa
Down a pound then another plateau - not fair. Don't think I am drinking enough water, gotta pick up the pace there and be thankful for the one poind lost.
Two weeks tomorrow on Phase One of the South BEach diet....I have lost 11 pounds....but I sure blew the diet out of the galaxy today....gourd group met at a very good cooks home!! BUT....she did serve a sugar-free pie...along with cornbread sticks, garlic bread, cheesy biscuits and a to die for beef stew!@!! I'll weight tonight. Jo
Eleven pounds! WOW, that is wonderful.
I looked at the South Beach but just can't seem to give up fruit and dairy products; I am such a milkaholic (skim, of course).
I used to live on Milk and Cheese....and I can start adding it back into my diet tomorrow!! And Fruit!! Phase 2....I won't loose as fast though. Jo
Just be sure never to beat yourself up when you fall off the wagon -- just get back on the wagon picking your teeth!
What an apt post! I "fell" hard yesterday....I went to my gourd group meeting....and the hostess had the most awesome food...I didn't quite pig out....but I did put away my share!! It shows on the scale today...no loss and 1 pound gain....ARRGGG. It was GOOOOOOOD though. Jo
Then just take joy in it and get on with things. I'm convinced guilt puts on more pounds than the actual food!!! And isn't enjoying an occasional meal with friends MUCH more important than one pound? (Okay, that's not license to get off the diet! Just a practical approach to being human.)
You'll be surprised what some salt and a little excess will do to the scales. I wouldn't get too discouraged. Weigh yourself in a couple of days. You'll probably be pleasantly surprised to see you really didn't gain that much. :) Just hang in there. I'm still struggling, too. I use SBD as a model to go by because I believe in it, but I can't do without my coffee. I don't do the soft drink thing though. I still need to work on my water. Y'all lets just keep hanging in there. :)
isn't it strange that the best thing we can do for ourselves - mainly drinking more water, seems to be the hardest. It doesn't make sense. Running to the kitchen for a glass right now. LOL
Well...I did loose the pound again...but not that extra one...and the sad part is that I have 3 pot luck dinners to go to in the next WEEK! Pray for me to resist! LOL Jo
