6 Drakes - 4 Hens.....

Howell, MI

Does this look like a bad ratio?!?!?!?!?

Personally - I'm starting to freak! lol I don't want my
girls to be slaughtered during the mating process!

*************************************************************************

I have a serious problem now - I just saw my "female" Cayuga mating with
my Khaki Campbell hen......EEK! So - now, I have 7 drakes to 3 hens!

Here's the lineup - 2 Pekin Drakes, 2 Pekin Hens, 4 KC Drakes, 1 KC Hen, 1 Cayuga Drake

WHAT DO I DO!?!?!?!?!?!?
Eggbid.com has an auction 6 pekin hens 1 pekin drake for $20.....I could eat the drake.....
but then what do I do about the others??? Does anybody know of a place selling juvenile ducks????

Besides - even if I added 6 more Pekin females - what about my single khaki campbell hen? do I need more smaller hens to offset for the males?? or do I cull my Cayuga & 1 or 2 of the kc's??

HELP!!!!!!!!

I think the ratio is recommended to be 1-drake per 4-8 hens. Drakes are known for being very aggressive in a mating situation and having competition (other males ) will only increase it.

If it were me I'd probably keep my two favorite males, sell/trade/send to freezer camp the rest and definitely try to buy more hens. Put an add in your local paper or craigslist that you want young female ducks. With winter coming a lot of ppl start to cut back with the fear of housing etc... You might get lucky.
