That's interesting, Fly. I never knew that, and I bet Cori didn't either -- now I'll be one up on her. :)
That is a pretty chrysalis, Rentman. Hope you have a gorgeous Monarch to follow.
Take care,
Indiana Lily a/k/a "Rent Lady"
Thanks for the info. we have a lot of small white B F in the garden but have seen very few Monarchs.
I've been looking at Milkweed plants, wow there's a lot of different types, leaver and flowers. I do not have any in my yard and don't see any close by, so I hope this one finds some.
Rent,
I have some (not too much) milkweed seeds I can send you. And I know others here must have some they can share with you too.
Just let me know if you're interested, and I can mail some out to you tomorrow.
Rent, great finds and that flagpole really does look like it was hit with lightning. Cool design.
The caterpillar on the ivy is also a monarch. They only eat milkweed when they are caterpillars then they go look for a place to morph into the chrysalis. He is probably looking for a good place to hang. You might want to put it in a container so you can watch it turn into a butterfly right before your eyes. In about 5-7 days.

Hi Chris , I have it in a container and it is on the top screen, we will see.
Careful, this little hobby gets addicting. LOL
Before you know it you will be planting a couple of host plants and checking for "bad bugs", that like to feast of our caterpillars and chrysalis. It really is alot of fun though.
After it ecloses and dries its wings for a couple of hours, you will be able to pick it up and take pictures. I cant wait to see them.
chris
Oh I will take pictures, for sure. I look at it each time I pass.
This AM it got down to 60 and the chrysalis looks darker, not the bright green that it has looked ? ?
The chrysalis is actually getting clear, and the dark your seeing is the black and orange wings of the butterfly. It will eclose most likely this morning in the next hour or 2, possibly tomorrow if its not that dark yet.
Great job! You have a beautiful baby boy Monarch. Congrats on a successful release!
chris
Awesome, Rentman!! Congratulations!! May you have many more success stories!!
