Hi All, I have been watching the tread from TexasLou and I have sympathy for all who are awaiting their first blooms. The thread was getting pretty long so instead of adding to it here's a picture of an inflo on a cutting from a big tree that Dg's helped me prune. I noticed this inflo when I took a picture of the tree and all the babies to let them know how it turned out. That was August 3rd and it still hasn't bloomed out! 7 weeks! Just doesn't get hot enough up here to make them faster I guess. Climate apparenty has a lot to do with all of it. Anyway, for those still watching for blooms on inflo's I guess it'll happen eventually- if it doesn't freeze up here first for me:) But I'll bring them in if it's getting that cold and hope it still blooms.
Blooms take soooo long!
I was just talking with a friend and fellow grower, and we both noticed how all our plants are showing less vigor and blooming a lot more slowly this year. The slow blooming is definitely noticable, and it probably has to do with the record cold weather we had here this past winter and unusually cold spring. However, I have a large amount of inflo's coming in on new wood, which is also something new so I'll probably put all plumerias with inflo's inside my portable greenhouse so that they will bloom over the winter. A lot of plumies made a great showing this year. I've had 84 different cultivars bloom this summer.
Edited to fix spelling;-) "Usually" should have been "unusually."

We've had drought here and no rain for a long time so I can't attribute it to that, but I am pleased to see so many also;-) I can only hope that it is an extended summer again through December so that I can enjoy the blooms through the winter on the big ones which are outside.
There going crazy here also late in the season but it will be nice. Debb to bad you don't have a hot house to put them in that would get them in gear.
Our temp got down below 50 last night, but we're still having warm days. Do you think they are still likely to bloom with that combo? The ragweed seems to be thriving. :-(
My keep growing and blooming as long as days are warm, even if the temperature difference between night and day is 20-30 degrees. Below 40, though, they start losing their leaves and go dormant. One or two nights at below 50 shouldn't affect them, but if the cold nights continue, we may be looking at early dormancy.
Hi All, I had to go to Phoenix for awhile so I moved everyone in because the nights are in the low 50's so now I'm trying to decide where they are all going to live. Got home to finally find the blooms opening! However, there were three half-opened ones on the floor. Soil tests moist enough and it has lots of light (when the sun shines-unlike today) so don't know what that's all about. So now I know what color at last that Mom and all her babies are! Thank you for telling me to be patient and for sharing your experiences. I see a couple more tiny inflo's coming even though it never got very warm this summer. Will see what happens. Oh, and it smells wonderful!
Nice blooms, Debb! Low 50's aren't bad as long as it is warm during the day. I would leave them out as long as possible so that they will keep blooming. They should come in when temps drop mid- to low-40's. Bud drop is from lack of energy so more sun and/or heat will help with that.
