As I went out to snap a picture of a newly opened Pink Frost this morning I noticed it was full of holes. A I got closer a Fiddler Crab jumped out and ran away. Wish I had been quicker with the camera. Obviously my worm castings do not repel crabs.
Recognising that this is a long shot, LOL, any ideas on how to discourage them?????
A new problem
I mince garlic and water and some tobacco is all i know
Pensacola, do you have pesky Fiddlers too? This has been a bad year for them here. My deer spray has garlic, I wonder if I sprayed that more often if it would repel the crabs? Hmmmmm, something new to try......
I am not sure but maybe and no I do not have any critters thank god
Don't know anything about crabs, except the ones you eat. But your flower is quite stunning!
LMAO!
Don't encourage her.....LOL
Oh my, and they eat such pretty PINK flowers. BAD BAD BAD. Are you sure he just wasn't hiding in there enjoying the view and a cat was the real culprit?
Are you on the beach, Alice? I am sorry but I have no idea either.
how far away from the marsh are you, and which river/ creek is it? i dont have a problem with them, and im near the little strip of marsh that is the beginning of the Okatie river near that place with the horses on 278 if you know where that is.
i'm under the "E" in Jasper ("jasper" is wrong btw. im in beaufort)
I live on the Morgan River salt marsh. The Morgan is not really a river but an inlet as it does not originate at a source of fresh water and it is pure salt. This is a really bad photo, I was flying with a friend and using a cheap camera without a good zoom or image stabilization. You can see the river in the background and a marshy area in the foreground. I live at the head of the little cove towards the left.
oh so that is why they are a problem... hmmm maybe you could make your yard more appealing to egrets, herons, ibises(?), and other natural predators...
What a beautiful place you live in! I had no idea that crabs would want to eat hibiscus - that's just crazy! I know, I know, I'm SO very Southern California, lmao ;-)
I know, here in California we eat our crabs!
What a beautiful picture, Alice. I would look at the water all the time too!
Diehrdsouthrnr, I so enjoyed your photo too!
I have always wanted to live on the water. I might still get to!
Who needs pictures when you can just look out at that, diehrdsouthrnr. Just lovely!
Ardesia, your last picture of the multi-colored sky and water, complete with hanging moss, looks like you live in a tropical paradise. It is so serene.
Tussee
Better to have crabs on your hibiscus than on...oh, nevermind.
I got those at camp when I was 8.
Hello mudda...hello fadda....
ardesia, if you are asking i i live on the beach.... NO! i live in bluffton, almost okatie! but i do know people that live on the beach and spanish wells!
Here I am in
Camp Granada :)
Ardesia, your view is gorgeous. Calm and serene. The pics are so "vacation-y". Forget about those little crabs. If you don't have a hammock, you need one.
LOL, the hammock is there but so are the mosquitoes. Nothing is perfect but for me it is pretty close. I love being out in my kayak in the early morning or at dusk and watching the colors of the sky and water evolve. It blows me away every time.
Jasperdale, about that camp.........LOL
The camp thing wasn't funny at the time, but it is now. Thankfully, it wasn't just me who suffered the humiliation of it all. About 20 kids shared the experience.
