Have alot of "Redflower False Yucca, Red Yucca " seeds

Frisco, TX

Okay, it is confession time...

I hope I am not the only one who is doing this lately... I will be driving down a road and see some nice landscaping in a park or other setting. I immediately notice the black seed heads/pods of everything there. I hit my brakes and get out and grab what I can. hahaha I hope I"m not breaking any laws or doing anything wrong but those seed pods are just calling to me.

One neighborhood in our area has the entire perimeter of the subdivision planted with all kinds of perenials. That is where I collected the Red Yucca seeds. I also got a small paper bag full of purple coneflower heads.

I am wondering if there is an AA type group for this problem?? LOL I am scouring my friends and neighbors yards too now for anything I can use. Helllpppp I'm addeicted to seed collecting.

Ha! I just got back from a garden tour at my parent's friends. Never mind that they are away on vacation. I didn't mind a bit. Ironically I just happened to have my camara, a pen, and several baggies in my pocket at the time. What are the odds?

Has anyone grown any of these yucca from seed? I'd love to give them a try but I've not had any success with the Adam's Needle variety.

I have to confess I have been to stupid to seed snatch. I am now going over in my head all the place I have been latelythatno one would have even cared if i discreetly gathers some seeds. I think I have the gardening bug now.

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

I grab seeds as I go. I don't see what's wrong in grabbing seeds from public places. Someone's yard is a different matter.

North West, OH(Zone 5b)

(Perhaps I should add that the people who contributed to my seed stash are good friends and even offered me cuttings ~ however it made for a better story if I used stealth in my seed collecting venture). (Although to be honest dead-heading ANYwhere does not seem like a punishable crime to me. Taking cuttings without permission most definitey. Removing spent blooms which will actually help the plant thrive? Not in the least.)

Angel,

I'd love some red yucca seeds...I dmailed you with my mailing addy.

Hello there,,,,

I would love to try some seeds,,,, I am a very very new newbie But I must confess I took my snippers and a bag to the house down the road from me and got as bunch of purple, pink and peachy cone head flower heads....... the entrance to the house is on the oher side street,,,lol :)

I had to get them,,,, I sit on my sun porch ever morning just looking at those flowers calling my name every morning and i figured they would be the easiest to collect seeds from for the first time. I think I'm doing it right at least,,,the seeds are those sharp thingy...

I won't even go into explaining it to the town police officer,,,,,,

The seeds are not the sharp things. They are between the sharp things. They look like a sunflower kernal. And not all coneflowers have them every time. Mine weren't producing so when I was going for a walk I asked a total stranger if she minded if I removed the dead flowers for her. Hers were full. Also the hybrids (probably like the peachy one you mentioned) may not come true from seed. But they should still produce some kind of coneflower like one of the parents. And if you're lucky they might produce one like the hybrid.

I don't think there is anyhting wrong with 'seed snatching'. I tell hubby I am helping God to clean up the earth! LOL The last time we were at this one Mediterranean restaurant, I saw the most beautiful royal blue/purple iris by the patio. On the way out, I grabbed a seed pod and am soaking the seeds now.

good for youRaggedyann. that's the seed snatching spirit!

I just realized you were from Bessemer! I spent last Sat. night there after the Ga/Al game. There were no hotels available in Tuscaloosa.
I was surprised to see palm trees growing in north Al. :)

Has anyone heard from AngelG1111? Haven't heard from her on here or by dmail since she posted this thread. Hope everything is okay. Maybe her seed addiction got her in trouble after all. LOL

I am so happy to hear that there are other seed snatchers like me. Now as I drive I about have a wreck when I see dead flower heads. haha I found some esperanza plants the other day in a shopping center and I have to go back and get them soon!

My SIL saw my seed collection tonight and thought I was insane. I said "hey there are tons of people online at davesgarden.com as crazy as me". LOL..

I may go back to the spot where I found all the seeds before. They had tons of 'turk's cap' and maybe there are some seed pods now.

Good for you Angel, I'm trying to get neighbors to join DG too so they can join in on the fun! I'm waiting for school day to end so I can go walk and see what pods are waiting for me! LOL
