WooHoo!! New bird in my yard!!

Marlton, NJ

I was so excited when I saw this male Red-breasted Nuthatch!

I know their all over the area but have never had one in my yard.

Pics aren't so great but I had to pic up the closest camera.

I'm one very happy camper here! :-)

Such a cute little fella; isn't he?

Nice one! . . . saw them in Oregon, they're real character birds

They are aren't they! The House Finch were giving him a hard time but he hung in there. :-)

They seem to be turning up all over the forum. Congradulations on getting a new bird to your yard.

Thanks Frank!

Great news....did you know what it was right away?

Marlton, NJ

Yes I did because I've seen them many times at my In-Laws and outside the Bird Shop.

Oh, it's always so exciting to get a new bird! That's great, Pelle.

I don't think we get nuthatches here. But I can enjoy your pics ;)

Congratulations, pelletory. Now they know where your feeder is, they'll probably be back every year.
I think I heard some today in Maryland.

Lady Eagle, the red-breasted nuthatches are year-round residents throughout Alberta. I bet if you had suet for them, they'd find it eventually.

Fabulous pic Pell

Congratulations, and I hope he sticks around for you! I share your excitement. It's always a high to see a new face at the feeders.

Really, claypa? Oh, hurray! Thanks for letting me know. (I've really got to get that Birds of Alberta book from the garden center! LOL)

I've got suet out so...c'mon nuthatches!

Marlton, NJ

I was surprised he didn't touch the 3 suet feeders I have out on that pole system but I guess he was strictly in the mood for peanuts yesterday.

Congratulations pelletory! :)

Thanks maggie! :-)

Oh wow, this bird looks very much like the bird I saw on my suet feeder yesterday. Only thing is his body was black/gray/white, just like the head.(at least that's what I remember) and he seemed to be thinner than this pic - but it was definitely the same head/face.

I guess I had some type of nutthatch.

Hi maureen! Probably a White-breasted Nuthatch.

Heres a page on them,
