At what height do you prune your peaches, pears, plums and apples? The younger trees in my orchard are approaching 8’ in height so if I am going to do it, I will have to get it done this winter. I can not explain why I am sooooo reluctant to cut back on these trees, because I know that it is best for them and me. Still I resist the need to grab the loping sheers. I could use all of the advice and encouragement that you offer.

Pruning fruit trees
I do not let my trees grow any higher than I can reach without a ladder.
They are semi dwarfs, but even on such a rootstock they will become 15 feet!
If you choose a hight, never let your tree grow higher than that. That is done eighter by pinching constantly ( what I do) or pruning 2x a year; once in summer to restrict feeding the roots and once after they are dormant to prune back to desired hight.
If you fear you might prune off fruiting spurs, that last pruning can wait until the tree sets buds for blooming. That way you see what kind of buds you are cutting.
