Pigeons

Lilburn, GA(Zone 7b)

I finally have a backyard that I can feed our winged friends.

I seemed to have been adopted by pigeons (I think that's what they are), infact a whole bunch of them who feed off the ground. I would really like to discourage them.

Suggestions?

Not really much you can do about Doves.

Just think of them as natures vaccum cleaner.

They never succeeded in clearing them out of Trafalgar Square in London, so I don't think you will have much luck. Besides pigeons and Doves are lucky.

Doves are really beautiful birds.

LOL, lets not get into a discussion about whether we love or hate them or both.

I feel both sides arguments but lets not start that.

Thanks all!

Never thought about the "vacuum cleaning" part, I like that ! Maybe they can keep the area around the feeders a bit more tidy :-)

I have alot to learn.....never realized that pigeons were actually doves....am I understanding that correctly?

Also...another question please. I understand about the seed needed for finches, I have them covered with one of those feeders that they hang up side down. The other seed mixture I have purchased has mostly black sunflower seeds and all those little seeds which mostly end up on the ground. Should I be feeding them strictly the sunflower seeds or maybe somebody could suggest something different with less waste.

Thanks all for your help!

You could or there are many other mixes you could try like Nut n Berry (not the opposite), this is very popular with all types of birds.
