Hello Pensacolagarden,
Let me see ... I can not outrule, that there could be a little of B. suaveolens hiding somewhere in your plant, but the big inflated calyx and the shape of the flower suggest B. insignis. ´

It is difficult for most people, even experts, to tell the difference of B. suaveolens and B. insignis. Among other things B. insignis differ from B. suaveolens by being a plant with relatively thin stem and branches, the leaves are elongated eggshaped to elliptic and entire and rich dark green. Other distinctive characters are the big and inflated calyxes, the long and rounded corolla tube (the tube of B. suaveolens are usually more or less pentagonal), the very broad flower edge and finaly the long, slender tendrils.

All in all, there is probably a lot traits of the species B. insignis in your flower and it is very beautiful.

You have it in water rooting and you got this magnificence bloom, now that is something. Just think what it will do once it gets rooted and planted in a pot.

Good morning.. James... just the one brug, too? It's pretty! I met you on the hibiscus forum. Welcome to the brug forum, too! How's the smell of that bloom?

Hello AuntB,

The smell is so intoxicating it is totally incredible. My friend gave me this cutting and it had a bud on it which just opened and it went from white to pink. I am in awe.

You ARE just going to LOVE living down there... Different brugs have different smells, but they are all intoxicating! If I have extra cuttings I'll send you some! I've promised some out, but I'll see what I can do when it comes time to cut - not too far away, sadly.
