Help - Broken Brug :(

Chicago Suburbs, IL(Zone 5b)

I got my very first Brug today that I bought off of eBay. It was a rooted 14 in or so plant... The mail man did not see the words "TOP" and arrow pointing up all over the box it came in and laid it on it's side : / One of the branches broke off and another broke off halfway. Will it heal up or should I cut the half broken branch off completely or just leave it?

I put the branch that completely broke off in some water and cut off all but the top few leaves, any chance it will it grow some roots?

I circled the partially broken branch in question.

Go back to e-bay and get a hold of the seller. It was packed poorly and should be replaced. But do it tonight so you go on record that you got it today.

I hope this helps, Joan

The plant looks healthy so things could be worse! I would just trim off the broken branch and work on straitning out the bent parts of the plant. Yes the seller should have packed the plant a bit better but goodness know what the postal service has done to it!
I would tell the seller but I don't think I would ask for a replacement after all the plant will grow more branches.
As for rooting the broken branch... I would give it a shot you just never know till you try.
Just my thoughts.

I had a brug accident last Christmas, where I accidently dropped my Christmas tree in it's box on one or two rooted brug cuttings. Ouch! I had branches that were partially broken like yours.

This is how I fixed the problem. I put a bamboo stake in the pot and used a zip tie (those plastic thingies that people use to secure things with) and tied the main stem to the bamboo so that it would stand straight. Then I basically did the same thing with the partially broken branch -- took a zip tie so that the branch looked almost normal, and secured that to the bamboo stake as well. By doing that (kinda like grafting, I think), it allowed all of the sap inside the branch to stay together, and it finally healed and became a sturdy branch again.

Desperate, I know, but it worked. ;)

If it were me, I'd just cut the branch off. I like standards so I would have removed it anyway.

Thanks everyone for the advice. The plant seemed well packed, I think if it had not been put on it's side ( and who knows what else) it would have been fine. This AM the largest branch looks good as new but the partially broken branch looks a pretty sad I think I am going to cut it off and try and root it.

I don't think arrows mean anything to the post office, maybe if it were a huge package. I'm sure the package was tossed and tumbled many times before you received it. The pot and plant should have been wrapped with paper to secure the leaves and the pot should have been secured within the box with by being taped down to the inside of the box to permit movement. Then I would have packed more paper around the taped down pot.....poor little thing... It'll be fine, with a little TLC, they are very forgiving plants. . . Too bad this happened with your first one... when you want to try some other cuttings, let us know.. someone would be happy to send you some for postage..
