Is there a discernable way to tell the roos from the pullets?? I have two buff and two bc whites that are a month old and I had to purchase them as straight run. The tail feathers on all these birds is longer than the rest of my month olds, but none of them are polish so I don't know if that is a tell tale sign or not. I see some differences in crest formation, but still not sure, it would be a bummer if ALL four were roos. One of the bc whites has a group of feathers coming straight out the top of the head. The other has feathers from the front to the back of head in a comb type formation. The two buffs both have mohawks, one mohawk is larger than the other though.
Polish chicks, male, female??
Ummm, any ideas? Anyone?
Different bird will have different crests, even out of the same mating
I have had polish for years and until they start getting their adult feathers I
am still not positive about who is the pullets and who is the cockerels
never paid much attention to what age they are when they get them in but
I'm pretty sure 1 month is a little early
When they start getting their juvenile feathers(not the chick feathers)
The Cockerel crest feathers will be pointed
The pullets crest feathers are rounded
the pullets head will look like a golf ball
the cockerels will just plain look goofy cause the longer crest feathers
come in uneven
Thanks : ) I know about the golf ball puff thing on the pullets, but had no clue about thepointed and rounded tipped feathers. That will definately come in handy.
