cream crowder or zipper peas sources

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

I have bought the zipper pea seeds locally now 3 times and all three times they were patchy and some didn't come up at all. I've heard rumors about this seed source locally that they don't freeze their seed in the winter and their seed is very old. I believe the source and have stopped buying them, Now that I have planted these 3 times now, and no such luck of having these this fall. As it's too late now.

I need a source for next year.

And do you think if I bought a large amount and stored them in the freezer they would be good still for late spring planting next year.

I know i'm thinking very far ahead here. But I'm so aggrivated at the fact that i've wasted my time for l l/2 months now and no results with the local seed.
I've mentioned this to them too and all they say is that they should come up , their s came up. WEll lad i dah They would never tell how many times they planted them LOL. I have had lots of trouble with other seed I bought there as well.

so thanks for the help i n advance, I really wanted to try these out this year, guess i'll have to wait till next year.

I've been searching the net for the zipper pea sources, I may have found some at victory seeds. but I'm not sure if their the right ones.

I wish it wasn't so hard to find these peas. Most web sites have them listed under cowpeas. It's a southern pea, and if anybody knows where I can get some, I'm looking for a large amount of them.

If you can't find them locally, Willhite is one of my favorite sources . http://www.willhiteseed.com/products.php?cat=54&pg=2 I also plant 5 lbs a t a time and look for closer suppliers to reduce shipping costs. There are quite a few vendors in the south. Note tho, that southern peas have a very short shelf life, germination falls off dramatically if kept for a secomd year.. It pays to have fresh seed, but they can be prolonged by storing in a freezer. Other vendors : http://www.georgiasupply.com/bulkpound.asp

thank you for your help farmerdill.

I'll check out the sources and save them to buy from them in the spring time.
Finding local seed around here is so hard, there is only 2 places that sell seed and they one doesn't sell in bulk at all. I hate living in a small rural aread LOL

White Acre is the more popular white pea here. Lady and Lady Finger are very similar. Very mild flavor but delicious in their own right. Biggest drawback is that they are quite small and tedious to shell by hand. Zipper is a medium size pea with a stronger flavor, but not as intense as the brown and black peas. The largest that I grow is Collossal, which is twice the size of the Zipper.
