Tuberous begonia advice needed...

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Hello begonia enthusiasts! I've really enjoyed the tuberous begonias this summer, but when the horribly hot weather hit they started looking pretty ratty. I have been allowing them to start dying back, but now that the temps are lower they are starting to grow from the tubers again. I've read that they shouldn't be allowed to do this because it will exhaust the tubers. Should I stop watering completely and force them into dormancy? My plan has been to store them dry, in the pots; is this a good idea?

Thanks for any advice!
Neal

jordankitty, do you keep them actively growing during winter?

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

gemini, yes i do, although they don't grow very much inside i do treat them like they are growing. i give them miracle grow every 3-4 weeks in the winter.

Thanks jordan, one more question: how long have you been able to keep one growing?

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

mine are 4 right now. i forgot to tell you, when i move them out side in the spring they really take off growing. mt DH wants to know where i think i have room for them this winter, but i'll find room.
