Pink blush flowers now white

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

This is the first year I've had blooms on this Hibiscus Moscheotos, which I planted in spring 2006. They had a pretty pink blush. Now, later in the season, the flowers are pure white; the pink is gone!
Anybody know why?

I don't grow that species of hibiscus, but with the tropical ones you can get a lot of variation in color from bloom to bloom, I'm sure sometimes heat affects it and probably other things as well. I'm not sure if the hardies do that too or not.

Sharon, this is very interesting. My Disco Belle, planted in 2004, has always been a pink blush. Earlier this week I noticed the blossoms were completely white with not a bit of pink on them! This has never happened on this plant before. I, too, am in the Chicago area. I wonder if our cooler temps (40-ish) last week had anything to do with this.

Hi neighbor,

That's quite a coincidence! It must have something to do with the cool spell we've had. I can't imagine what else it would be.

Another observation is that for some reason the pink blush blossoms never fully opened. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/756805/ But now that the blossoms are all white, they are opening all the way. Go figure!
