Growing bananas in Ga

Lawrenceville, GA(Zone 7b)

I picked up a Musa Ensete yesterday and am wondring if I should keep it indoors for now and then transplant it outside in the spring. It is about 2 feet tall now. The lady got it from says It will be 5 ft. tall by spring. I just hope the cats don't decide to use it as a scratching post .... Ant help is appreciated!

I am not familiar with your variety, You should be able to plant it now and mulch good for winter and if it is as hardy as banana musa rojo and banana musa bajoo then it will be fine.

Do you have a picture?

Here's a pic..... some of the leaves are solid green, others have these spots....
Thanks,

It looks to be like the ones that are hardy, but even the ones I grow are marginal for our zone. I would plant them outside, heavy mulch, the cold will kill them back and unless we have an very unusually cold winter it will come back in spring with many pups. Amend the hole richly when you plant it.

good luck

Thanks luv!!!! My neighbors son is coming over after school to do the hedges and pull out some dead ones. I think I'll plant the banana in one of those spots, also have a few other things to plop in there. :)
Have a great day and thanks again,
Susan
