Am I a yellow bear?

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

I posted this over in bug ID, but I'm not getting much action, so I thought I'd try here. The closest I could find in my caterpillar ID book is a yellow bear (Viginia Tiger Moth - Spilosoma viginica). the last instar of the yellow bear is this color (and the range, location, etc fit), but I think it has longer hair. Anybody got a better ID? (sorry it's fuzzy...I get excited LOL)

What kind of plant is it on grampapa? That might help some. I doubt I will be able to help you but the kind of plant it is on sometimes helps.

Congrats whatever he is.

Hi, Leslie. He's on a NY aster. My book says the yellow bears eat low-growing plants and woody shrubs, so that would qualify.

got another pic of one that certainly looks like an earlier instar of the same species. it has the longer hair. I think it is a yellow bear.
