Is ornamental kale edible?

I'm not a huge fan of kale, but it's good to know what's edible in my yard when the Big One comes.... Anyone know?

I would think it is. I mean, if you're facing annihilation and gottta get in your veggies, I'm pretty sure it would suffice.

Hi Spidra,

Yes, ornamental Kale is edible! It was developed for it's foliage colors, but you can most certainly eat it.

Good to know. Thanks!

It's delicious in a stir fry, steamed lightly, or chopped raw for salads. It has a strong flavor, and reminds me a little of Swiss Chard in taste. But it's edible, and you can buy the seeds to grow your own. The plants are very pretty.

I have some growing already. Already went to seed, which I've collected, and the pups are growing.

It and flowering cabbage add color and taste to a grren salad.
