The Aransas County/San Patricio Master Gardeners are holding a plant sale 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 29 at Green Acres demo gardens (sale is within the cyclone fence). Also, for $10, you can tour 11 "Hidden Gardens" in Aransas Pass, Portland and Rockport from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are available at Green Acres and at 107 Driftwood, Portland. Green Acres is at 611 E. Mimosa at Pearl St. The phone number is 361-791-0103. I think the tour is a do-it-yourself tour, where you present your ticket to gain entry at the various places.
Hidden Gardens tour & fall plant sale Rockport
We will be in the area the last week of Oct. for vacation. Seems I'm always too late or too early.
Yeah, that happens to me too. Last year, I scheduled a trip *after* buying a ticket to the hidden gardens tour. How stupid is that.......
deck, we stay at Gulf Shores Condos on Mustang Island but sort of roam around for the week. Any particular nursery we should not miss.
If you're in Rockport, Adams Nursery is small but has a lot of the native plants for our area. I also like to visit there because of the lizards - scads of them. It also has quite a few plants in smaller-than-one-gallon containers at very reasonable prices.Both Copano Bay Nursery and Bloomers have beautiful plants; they tend to have more of the showier ones if that's what you are looking for. Both are lush with plants of all sorts. All three of these are within maybe 2 miles of each other on Hwy 35 South Business.
Johnson's Nursery in Ingleside (Hwy 1069) is similar to Adams though bigger. It has a great selection of Mexican pottery planters and garden ironware.
In Corpus Christi, try Gill's on Airline Drive and Turner's on S.P.I.D. Turner's is pretty amazing - like stepping into another world. Gill's is probably the "best" most professional nursery.
I can't pick a don't-miss for you, as you can tell! It depends on what you're looking for....
