Send blooms to friend?

Silver City, NM(Zone 7b)

I have been caring for my friends plumerias while she's out of town and they are starting to bloom. How do I pick the blooms and package them so they will last for a 5 hour road trip and then what should she do with them to keep them fresh when she gets them? Don't want her to receive little wilty brown things! Thanks for your help.

Some blooms have better keeping quality than others. Most people pick the blooms and put them in water, and they can last for a few days up to about a week in water. I think lei's are refrigerated to keep them fresh when they are made the day before. I think if you float them in water and keep them in an air-conditioned car, they should do fine on a 5-hour road trip.

Luc recommends putting the blooms in a ziploc bag, bloow full of air and then refrigerate for a while before traveling.

You could also take your own digital camera or buy a discount one (they are quite inexpensive) and take some photos of the plants for her. You can email them to her.

Thank you all for the info- I cut them, refrigerated them, and her husband is taking them in the morning. I took pictures earlier when they started blooming and emailed them and they were beautiful so that was a good thing but the smell is so amazing I don't want her to miss that.:) Thanks again.

I talked to my friend and the blooms made it very well. She was tickled! I wrapped ice in a wet paper towel and placed the blooms in a plastic bag with it. Thanks again for helping me out and here's a picture of some of them I sent.
