Anyone have Parsley I can borrow?

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

Cori and I are being horrible today, by the way. With the eclosure of the butterfly (which we missed because I was calling in sick at the time), we decided to go look at our butterfly garden to see which plant we are going to put our new beauty on. So, what did we find? 4 more cats. This brings us up to 6 small cats and 1 that's about to pupate (3 more are currently in chrysalises). Ok, obviously, we don't do things on a small scale as newbies here.

I dont have enough parsley for 6 young cats. There are no nurseries around here that have it, and after reading about the cats dying when eating store bought parsley no matter how much you wash it, I don't want to go that route. So, anyone here in the southern states have any parsley plants? I'd most definitely pay for shipping and all that. I'd just hate to see them starve at this point.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice!!

Edited to say, I just found two more cats, which brings it up to 6 cats found today.

I have never had a problem with dill or parsley purchased at Lowe's

Oh girl, I know you are in a panic. I had the same problem with my GF's and had to buy more passion vine plants. But as for parsley, I certainly don't have any or I would love to send it your way. Nobody has any around there at all? I would think the only thing you could do is go ahead and buy from the store and wash the heck out of it. I don't know what else to tell you to do. I may have been the one you read about having fed my BST cats dill from the store and they all died. But I am not sure that is what they died from, I really don't know. I just put those two together. And maybe I did not wash it quite good enough. Hopefully somone will come along and have some they can send you as I am sure somone has some somewhere. But as a last resort try the store bought stuff and just wash the heck out of it. I think it will probably be fine. The alternative is worse I would think. And sorry you missed the eclosure. Was he/she a beauty? Hope you have pics of it somewhere.

Good luck and I sincerely hope you find some parsley. That is such a frustrating and frightening feeling, I know. But keep your chin up, someone will come through for you.

I have been feeding the grocery store parsley for about 5 weeks, and I can't attribute any deaths to it. I float the parsley in a bowl, making sure to untie it so all stems etc are washed. If I hadn't used it, they would have died from starvation!!

I think what kills me about the nurseries, Lowes, big box stores, is that when they decide it's no longer the season for something, they stop selling it. Herbs would be an example. Hummingbird nectar is another, and most people are loaded with hummers right now.

I'll hope for the best here -- maybe I'm just panicking. I do have about 6 - 7 three inch potted plants of parsley, so maybe we'll be ok. I just saw what the other 5 have done, and I'll be cutting it close. :)

If the time comes, I'll try out the grocery store parsley route.

Thanks much!

I agree with you Indy. When I was looking for dill for my BST's it was like end of June beginning of July. That leaves a pretty long growing season left for dill. Not one store had it. Not sure if it was just so popular that it had all been bought up or if they just decided no one was making pickles anymore. And for their information our West Texas Fair and Rodeo was this past week and I am sure there were many bottles of pickles on hand for taste testing trying to get a blue ribbon. Now what did those people do for dill? lol. Anyway, if the dill sold that fast then I would think they could order some more and sell some more. But no, they slay me with the things they keep around and the things they get rid of. And another HUGE gripe for me is why, why, why do they let half dead plants stay around at full price when someone, me for example, would love to buy them and try to save them if they would sell them just a little cheaper. I mean really, if the plants have been there so long that they are half dead obviously no one is buying them so why not put them on sale and maybe get some interest going. I tell ya I should manage all of the garden nurseries around here. I would have a huge sale on half dead plants that still have time to get in the garden and do some good. Especially perennials, I mean really. Now is a great time to plant perennials if anyone would put their ol' tired half dead plants on sale.

Okay stepping off soapbox. Sorry to sabotage your thread Lily. I think you will be fine with the store bought parsley if that is what you have to go with but hopefully you will have enough to squeak by with.
