I wanted to try and grow these trees. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/51550/index.html Saw them in Epcot last year and thought they would look nice. Haven't seen one around here so I'll give it a shot.
Problem one. No one sells these, online or anywhere.
So I finally tracked down seeds, not easy either.
Problem deux. 3 months and I can't get a seed to germinate. After reading up I gave this a try and it worked.
I ended up sanding a hole in the ends of the seeds with a dremel tool. Very hard seeds.
Simmered some water and pour over the seeds. 36 hour soak.
Potted them up. again in some cases and put them outside.
Three days later one sprouted and I'm up to six now. Started another four a couple of days ago.
I have to say this is becoming my most problematic plant so far. LOL.
Now if I can get them up to 10 ft tall by next winter I'll be set. If these die off next year I'll be a bit angry. Should be cold hardy enough but it will be close when they're small. I'm going to keep them inside over the winter this year.
I did find plants here about a week ago, http://toptropicals.com/cgi-bin/garden_catalog/cat.cgi?uid=Cassia_leptophylla.
If anyone is interested.
I finally did it.
