Hard chew toys and teeth

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

I am pretty sure this is what caused Corkie's problem. For several days she has been grouchy, and also I noticed she kept running her tongue through her teeth. It seemed to me like she had a hair or thread caught in her teeth that was bothering her. So today I thought I would look in her mouth and see if I could find anything. I had done this before and found nothing, but I was determined this time to make her let me look thoroughly.
Well, I found that her top back molar had a flap of what I thought Tartar on it. It was pearly white, though, so I was confused. It turned out that the enamel had broken loose from the whole tooth on the outside and you could actually she the inside of her tooth. I cut myself on the sharp enamel looking for the problem. How terrible that must feel! OUCH! She is at the Vet's now waiting for an extraction tomorrow morning. I feel bad when something like that takes me a while to figure out, when the pain is going on for her.
It is being taken care of now and I removed all those nylon bones that I thought were safe for her. No one is getting them anymore. This had to be what did it. She must have chomped it just the wrong way for that to happen, as she has been using them for years.
If you give these to your dogs, just be aware of it, so you can monitor them for problems.
