Sudden death of my verigated Brugmansia.

Burlington, ON

All my brugmansia are potted up in the same soil, get the same water and fertilizer and sit within a 10 foot radius of each other.
Last Friday, durring the night my one foot high variegated Brug went extreemly limp. The top leaves and branches lost all rigidity.
Sat.morning I dosed it with a topical sulpher dust to no avail. Sunday I repoted it. The root system was strong and white and healthy looking but I dampened the newly poted plant with a systemic sulprer sol'n. When handling the plant, the outer tissues seemed to almost slough where I touched it.
Today it is no better and I expect I will lose it but took 3 small cuttings from the firmest parts anyway.
I have 8 newly started Brugs comming in from Florida next week and will be sending 3 on their way once they have some R&R.
Do any of you have any theories on what I may be dealing with, how to treat it and any other support? If this could be spread, I will have to make some quick arrangements for the ones that are comming. I have 13 others, all seem fine, at this point.
Thank you.

Sounds like a bacterial or fungal attack. One can use Captan or Daconil as a drench. You may want to go ahead and use it on the cuttings you took from the dying plant. It was probably botrytis or rhizoctonia.

You know RA, mine did this last year. I had just put it in a bigger pot and I had a sneaking suspicion my cat decided to try it as a litter box. I honestly don't have that problem hardly EVER but this one had the fresh loose soil on top and she looked guilty when I asked her about it.

Liz you are so sweet. I am glad to know you!
