With the excessive rains we've had in my area this year, the gingers are really going to town! My stepson who was visiting recently said my yard looked "jungle-y". I took that as a compliment, lol.
Being that I was feeling lucky with gingers, I thought I would dabble into globbas. Can't remember the name right off, but it thought this one was mighty fine. I think they are a subp. of curcumas. Hopefully our resident experts will chime in.
Anywho, I know nothing about them, but I'm hopeful they'll perform as well as all the other ginger stuff. I'm excited.
Globbas, anyone?
wow I have never seen one so big. Mine are small. Maybe need to get them in more sun. Thought they wanted shade lol
Well as much rain we are getting here lately, I am not surprise the plants are monsters by now...Beautiful !!!
I will be meeting you there at Jerry's next month to bring you your Khymer Orange ginger..
vossner, I have probably killed mine I got from Liz (I'm so sorry!) I think I'm going to try mine differently next time. That could be mauve dancing girl--so pretty
the one in the pic is about 18" tall and was planted in bright shade, with about 2 hrs of brutal tx afternoon sun, but just 2 hrs.
I can't wait for my Khymer Orange. I have been collecting/planting all kind of plants colored orange/peach. Mostly roses, but I have hibbies, DLs, amaryllis, med. height hedychium well, everything in some tone in the orange family, flanked by tropicals. It is a very new bed, but it's beginning to look orangey.
whatcha think? It looks a lot like yours http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/165905/
That Khymer is awesome,,,,lol...had to have one too, they send plants that are pretty muscular, too
Looks like mauve dancing girl (wintii) to me also. But yours is awesome.
Mine never got that big when I had it.
Great growing job!!
Janet
I recently bought some globba Wentii dancing lady ginger, it's not up yet, but this is my first globba
It's suppose to be purple flowering, I can't wait, but will have to wait till next year.
I have alot of gingers, but the globbas are a first for me. Since I normally grow them all in pots.
Remember, do NOT water your Gobbas in the winter. The Globba you received should be sprouted this time of the year, since it is not do not over water it. Because you are on a colder climate it would be safer for you to wait until spring to sprout your Globba rather than in the Autumn.

Ok, thanks for the info Liz.
You are quite welcome, ma'am.
Liz
I did want to mention that we're still getting 90's once in a while, and 68 night temps, so it's nottoo cold yet for these to sprout this year is it?
