Only open to new subscribers that don't have lilies or grow them.
I will only take the first 14 names that ask for these. They are asiatic lilies, color a lt. yellow with freckles or black spots on the petals. Would post a picture, but don't know if I will find it in my picture album as my computer crashed a few weeks. ago.
You will receive at least 5 bulbs plus many small seedlings in this package.
Plant the bulbs 5 to 6" deep and the small seedlings 1' deep. They will settle them selves deeper as they grow.
You will only pay postage to me upon receiving your package.
Will need name and address, Please.

CLOSED: CLOSED: Newbys to growing lilies
I just wanted to make sure people got to see this, Maxine. What a thoughtful gesture ;)
Yes, it is! Very sweet of you Maxine!
Watch it two!! I even might get to thinking that.
Next spring I will have to dig some others and take to the Iowa RU and then to Madison.
Maxine
I am new to Dave's Garden with a property I just bought last year. If you don't get enough other Newbie's to share your lillies I would love some. I do have some pink lillies that my SIL shared with me. My address is listed and I'll wait and give others the time to response.
Thanks!
Pat
Pat, I will give you the first bunch, since so far you are the only one to post.
Is you address in daves?
Maxine
Well, you know you ARE sweet..and if noone else gets in line me and Magnolia may just change our names....and get in line....lol
Maxine,
I would love some also, if you still have some. I am new to the site (and to gardening), so I am not exactly sure how to make sure you have my address. So, let me know the best way to get it to you, OK.
Thanks,
Dana
Maxine, if you have any lilies left I would love to get some. I will send you a D-mail.
Thanks,
Wanda
hehehe, see Maxine....I thought that would get someone's attention..lol
i have been on dg for one year but have no lilies.....can i be included? would love to start ...in fact i was here looking for info on what i do to grow lilies...if they grow in pots etc:)
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/771048/
New co-op just started today!
janet....that is what made me see this thread....i came over to lilies forum cause i havent grown them; also what is the difference betwwen asiatic and oriental? or do i need to know that right now..,..; can i grow these in pots?...do i plant them now in pots or wait till spring....i have grow lights for the winter time.....yikes i have so many questions....
lol, go to the chat thread on the co-op and ask away..I am sure you will get all the answers you need...you can also look on Blooming Bulbs web site, they may have some of the info you need there as well...I have not looked there but some of them have info on planting and care etc.
I have planted them both in the ground and in pots...and they should be fine in your zone planted in the ground now...we have a good bit of time before winter and they should be able to get pretty well established in their garden spot.
Sticks, send me your addy please, and Monday will send you a package of lilies.
These are asiatics like I said, bloom in June and July.
Orientals bloom later in July and sometimes into Aug.
Trumpets bloom in July and Aug.
Plant all of your lily bulbs 6" dp. and yes you can put them in pots, but I never have as we have severe winters here to overwinter them outside that way.
Hope I have made my self clear, if not ask questions. That is the only way you learn something.
Maxine
I have trumpets in pots...but not the others...I have put them in pots until I could get them in the ground though...and they did fine here...but it was normally too hot here for me, so they were in the ground during the colder periods (which is nothing like your Winter!).
I want to get more trumpets too...I think I have fallen in love with all of them this year!!
is trumphet another lily? what makes them different than oriental or asiatic; if i plant them in pots now....should i bring them in? or leave them outside? or should i plant in the spring....the reason i am so set in the brain with containters....is that i want the smell.....and i have no growing area by my patio except pots...
maxine ...thank you for your generousity
i will dmail you my addy:) and do you take paypal? i can send postage
Sticks, to answer your question. Most trumpets are tall and when they get mature can reach a height of 6 to 7' tall. And yes, they are another lily species.
Suggest you ask someone on the lily site that is from your area. I couldn't honestly tell you as your weather is very different than mine.
Forgot to say, trumpets also have a lovely smell along with the orientals. When the orientals are blooming you can smell them all over the yard, unless you have 10 acres like we do in the country.
Maxine
so does that mean the asiatics dont have a smell? and with reference to the coop...it sez asiatic but there is an oriental choice...i am so danged confused
Only orientals have a very distinct smell. Some trumpets do also. Suggest when you get going with you lily addiction that you purchase some orienpets. They are a cross between orientals and asiatics, if I recall correctly.
Gorgeous coloration and smell!! Should have said oriepets or O/P [short cut for the name]
Maxine
Yes, Maxine they DO smell wonderful too! And the colors are just great!
Ahhhhhhhhhh i didn't know what to tell my husband when he asked me why are some called oriental and some Asiatic!! thanks!
Oh Oh, I would love some lilies. I have none. I am new to DG and gardening period.
Sorry to do two posts, but I have been wanting to try liles soooo much and I was scared some would get in line before me. lol.
We just bought our house a 2 1/2 months ago and I have never even owned a plant. We have this amazing yard, but a bit overgrown. I received my first plant from a friend and I have been garden frezy crazed. Unfortunately, the drought and water restrictions destroyed any plants I put in the ground. You know the story, new to gardening, buy everything and stick it in the ground. I have saved a few in the back in pots and have focused on researching and design.
I have been looking at lilies and I am a bit afaid of them. Being new, I wasn't sure if I could properly care for them But rest assured, I will reseach deligently and propbably drive ya'll crazy with questions.
I know that first post was crazy, but I want to use lilies sooo bad and didn't want to miss the opportunity.
Sincerely,
Traci
traci...if for some reason she has run out i will let her ship mine to you....; i too am new to lilies....and am on year 2 of gardening and stay confused all the time; so much to learn....just stick around and ask ask ask.....; someway you will get some lilies:)
Sticks, you are a doll, but I won't take the ones you get. That is not fair. You want to learn as much as I do. That is such a kind offer, but please keep yours. Like you said, someway I will get some lilies, maybe even the old fashion way, buy them. lol. Just let me know how yours do!
Very sweet of you,
Traci
If you newbies decide to buy lilies, do yourself a favor, and buy from reputable lily dealers. You may end up paying a bit more in the beginning, but they will be true to name and more healthy than the shriveled up ones you can get at the big box stores. Cruise through some of the threads in this forum and you'll learn who to buy from and who to stay away from.... If I had checked in here a long time ago I would have saved myself several hundred dollars of not true to name lilies...
Diann
Thanks Ticker! Couldn't have said it better myself.
Just got home from Bernies and came home with a whole lot more than what I took there. I could just hear them calling to me. Yea right!!
Traci, if you will contact me with your name I will send you a package of the lily bulbs.
They will all be going out Monday. Plant immeadiately upon receiving them.
Maxine
Max, If I had known you, Mags, Moby, Mainiac, Lefty, Inanda, and all the other wonderful folks on the lily forum when I first started buying lilies, I'd have a better and bigger collection than I do now... :) Best of all, they would have been true to name, knock out killer lilies. :)
Newbies, you pay attention to what those ladies have to say about lilies. They know their stuff and they have the gardens to back it up. :)
Diann
Maxine, if you have any left, I would love some.. I tried to buy some a while back and had a really bad experience.. First rotten, then dried and dead. Last time it came half rotten and dead, the others smelled so bad I tossed those too. So if you have any left, I'd like some.. Thanks
Lindy
