Cuttings with dark tips

I got a group of cuttings and some have black tips. They don't look soft, but they are dark. Are these viable?

Can you show a picture? Some bark is just naturally dark. Is that black part hard or soft and wrinkled? Damage or black tip fungus can heal and be black and hard. It is hard to say without seeing a pic.

I'll take a photo. The tip is much darker than the rest, which is green. Som what wrinkled.

Here are two representative ones:

Ouch. That's not good. That's rot all right. If the tip is like that, chances are good that the whole cutting is like that. I can't see the rest of the cutting though, but it is unusual for rot to start at the tips. It usually starts at the bottom and travels upward.

Thanks. And that's actually the same one twice. I must have messed up the photo attachment.

You can try cutting to clean white wood and see if there is any left at the bottom of the cutting and try to root it as a center cut, but that might be very tough even if you do find good wood. It must have sap flow as well. I think that one is a loss. Sorry!

They are all dead as a doornail. Question - Do I need to worry about this spreading to the healthy ones?
