I googled for a deffie but couldn't find it. Tropicman can you tell me what it is. It really looks interesting.

Deffenbachia? (sp)

I wondered if that wasn't it. Thanks

Do you have that in the ground down there?

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

No It's in 15 gallon container,I got a cutting from Nan,year ago last march, sent her one from mine to see who could grow one the fastest and the biggest, this one is Deffie Octopus, and now is about 5 ft tall and blooming for the first time, and about 5 blooms are coming on.

But here is mine, and it's only in a 5 gallon pot and rootbound to beat the band, and over 8ft tall.

Their both gorgeous, didn't realize they were outside plants. I've had them years ago, inside.... they got all leggy so I pitched em.... but wow, those really add to your tropical look!

Is this particular one larger then the ones you get and use as house plants?

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Yes, it is one of the larger ones.

Nice growing, friend!!

But you sent me a Banana, not a Dieff......and it, too is growing nicely....I still haven't figured out which one it is, exactly (it was between two ID's) because I have to keep it in an 8" pot and that kind of restricted it's growth.
I love it, though!

I don't 'allow' my Dieffenbachias to bloom....seems that they always decline when they do, and the blooms really STINK in my opinion, lol!!
I snip off the blooms when I see them.

But, needless to say, a blooming Dieff is proof of a happy Dieff, so Octopus likes you!!

LO glad you set me straight, banana HUH!!!LOL
Now I'm going to worry all nite who I sent a deffie too!!!!LOL

Getting old and so is my memory!!!!

Stink I think it smells like pineapple and mango maybe!!!!

I think I planted it into a larger pot than it should have been, but now it has sent up a baby.
Nan do you think it will get as tall as my other one????
Have you gotten a frost yet?

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

LOL...no problem. We're *all* getting older, and our memories right along with us!

I remember you discussing a dieff w/someone at that time, but don't recall who it was.
I wonder who 'won'?! (Ü)

My banana is doing great, I'm really happy with it.

Now, this one has not bloomed for me as of yet, but if it's blooms smell like that, well, then, maybe I'll reconsider snipping it off;)

Yes, we've had a couple of frosts. It was 32 degrees last Saturday morning, and we had the usual MAD RUSH to get everything in the garage the night before.....can't take them into the house until they're 'de-buggified'....lots of earwigs, slugs and spiders lurking, and I like none of them!
The next morning....I found a large hoya hanging in the apple tree that we'd missed...but amazingly, it appears to be OK....can you believe that?!!

I was unprepared, as I wasn't expecting frost/freeze until the end of the month.

Glad to hear your hoya was alright, were expecting a cool front tonite, but not so much as a temperature drop as a dry line and north winds!
