Hmmmm?
So Altagardener, what books did you get?
Well, funny you should ask... given that I've been peppering my postings with comments for the last 2 weeks about how I'm "waiting on pins and needles, etc." ;-) Sheesh, it's about time somebody asked!! LOL!
Since I have never regretted buying what I consider "reference" books, I admit that I splurged... (Actually, since the Canadian $ is high, and given the great deal that NARGS offers on Timber Press publications, why not?)
So here's what I got:
Creating and Planting Alpine Gardens - Rex Murfitt
Alpine Plants of North America - Graham Nicholls
Alpine Plants of Europe - Jim Jermyn
Gardening on Pavement, Tables and Hard Surfaces and Moss Gardening - George Schenk; given, the subject of the latter book may not be too applicable in our dry climate, but I had it home from the library earlier and found it to be a lovely book.
Second Supplement to Seed Germination Theory and Practice - Norm Deno
Botanical Latin - William T. Stern
Rock Garden Plants - Baldassare Mineo
Handbook on Troughs - NARGS; I attempted to buy this at the last CRAGS plant sale, but was unfortunately given a publication I already had - got mesmerized by the plants and didn't realize the error 'til too late.
And one for the hubby: Waterlilies and Lotuses - Slocum
Whatta haul, eh?
Sheesh, it's about time somebody asked!!
GotchYa! Heeheehee
What a haul indeed! From your list I have these:
Creating and Planting Alpine Gardens - Rex Murfitt
Funny, because I also got this way way way after my my intro to rock gardening
Rock Garden Plants - Baldassare Mineo
Nice, but disappointed with the quallity of the photos.
Botanical Latin - William T. Stern
Oh boy, you're in for it now. I'm really in to language in general (not just Latin), so I like the book. Not so sure you'll find it all that interesting. Mostly deals with grammar and semantics. But the price is right! I only have one book more "involved" than that: Plant Resins. (The price was right there too.)
Whattayamean, "gotcha"?? Man, talk about sloooooow on the uptake, LOL!
Well, that is a surprise - I never would have guessed you were interested in language. I think I'd soon get my fill of information on plant resins... are you interested in chemistry as well?
Whattayamean, "Whattayamean, "gotcha"?"
Oh, never crossed my mind it could be taken two ways: I meant just the opposite. Not "I understand," rather "made you wait, made you wait (on purpose)."
Or, did we "Gotchya" each other?
Hmmm. What a predicament.
--------------------------------------------------------
I am a language nut, especially how grammar and words are used as it relates to culture.
are you interested in chemistry as well?
Not particularly. It's just an area of plant physics (if that's the right word) that I've never delved into, and I know I want to. But I've hardly had a chance to open the book cover.
Did learn some good chemistry jokes in college, though.
