Funny photos ....

I was outside checking my gardens this evening before dark and saw a few butterflies settling in for the night. Mostly Peacocks and some skippers tucked in nice and snug among my plants.

As I was coming back inside, something caught the corner of my eye. Imagine my surprise! No wonder my cat Penny was peeking out the window!

Penny was trying to bat the snake through the window! LOL!

oh how funny Becky

Wow! Does any one know what kind of snake it is? I had a simular incident happen to me here about 4 years ago but quickly dispose of the critter.

I bet Penny did the feline foxtrot back away from the window! Healthy looking snake, what kind is it?

It's a harmless Black Racer. I have several in my yard and we have a mutual respect for each other. I rarely kill snakes here. They are good to have around because they sometimes help keep the poisonous snakes out of my yard. :-) I currently have 3 different species that I know of. Black Racer, King Snake, and some docile underground snake that I occasionally dig up when gardening! LOL!

This particular snake I see all the time in my yard. There is also another one that is smaller. Perhaps mates? :-)

Finding the snake perched on the window sill was great, but seeing my cat looking through the window ..... PRICELESS! :-)

Joseph - And my kitty did back up pretty quickly when the snake started climbing up the window! ROFL!

Oh man.... I'm SO GLAD it's you not me. I used to have snakes out where the clothes line was 29 years ago and I quickly changed to using the DRYER!!! I really don't like to come across snakes if I can help it. Don't get me wrong, I understandy why you wish to continue your mutal relationship, I dont' like MICE either and I'm sure the snakes are helpful there too...

Haha, that's funny Becky, Penny probably hasn't ever seen a string with eyes!

We have a Buttermilk Racer here, first time I saw it I thought someone had spilled paint on him.

I have one of those in my yard. I call it "EEK!"...LOL. I know it's harmless but I don't like it when I'm trying to work in the greenhouse and it's trying to come in with me.

Too cute Becky. That is your new kitty, Penny, right? I bet she is so glad you brought her home to all that interesting stuff going on. Priceless.

Hilarious duet, Becky. Harmless black snakes don't show themselves often here, but ditto to "they keep the bad [guys] out", bulb-eating rodents down, use of chemicals to a minimum and round out our "zoo" nicely. I agree 100% with you in what I've read of your posts so far about working for a balance of life as opposed to an imbalance with chemicals.

Priceless Becky! .....

Glad to give you all a good laugh! I laughed to see the whole thing transpire! Too funny! :-)

What wonderful photos!!! Definitely one of a kind...okay...maybe three of a kind :o) Truly priceless!!! Perfect timing!!!

I'm looking at those photos and thinking...must be glad those window frame cut out aren't bigger and the snake smaller. Those buggers can squeeze into the tiniest of places...eeeeeeeeek!!!

Must say the front guestroom overlooks the front street and my dog have make that room theirs. I put a sofa near the window so they camp out there all the time. The window glass is covered with dog nose prints...and bark slobber! Yep, they press up against it whenever a neighbor kitty sashaying across my yard to tease them. They also freak out when a lizard of spider skitters across the screen. When I first moved in they quickly tore threw the screen. I had to replace it and now I keep the window glass down. Much easier to clean the glass than replace a screen!!!

Again...those photos are fantastic!!! A video would have been awesome for America's Funniest Animals.

Something like that (snake) would just freak me out -- harmless or not. But, then, I'm not a snake person either (if ya couldn't tell). These are good pictures though, of Penny trying to play with a new "toy." Cats are so much fun, but have you noticed, if you watch them play, they'll stop?

Abilene, TX(Zone 7b)

Too true Indy. Cats don't want you to think they are playing. They are funny that way. They don't want you to think they are having any fun or doing anything they want to do because they want you to feel sorry for them. They are so crazy. I love it when they run into something or do something really dumb and then walk off like it never happened. They are such proud creatures they don't want you think they could make a mistake of any kind.

Hey Becky~
This little fella was hiding in my jungle garden for a while.. I saw him last week eating out of the bird feeder. Then, the night before last I heard a cat out there and I haven't seen him since. Feral cats have annoyed me in the past... (they go after my birdies), but this time I let it slide... :-o

Cat - LOL about the slobber all over your guest room windows! Gee, maybe I could have won something if I had video-taped it for the show! lol

Felicia and Leslie - Ya gotta love cats for their "air of superiority"! It is a hoot to watch them and they do NOT like you to laugh at them. (My cat gets me back later! lol) She thinks I am another cat and she chases my "legs/feet" as I am walking around the house at night! She does that side-ways arched back prance around me which is a riot to watch. We love her!!!

Deb - Love your little visitor!!! Too cute. I hope you don't get too many of them. Of course, you have a local hawk, too! So probably will keep the population down.

Attached is a photo of the squirrel and the fruit rat that were having breakfast this morning. I don't see anymore rats. I think the owls and/or the hawk got the others. And there are only 2-3 squirrels now that come to my yard. The others either moved on or got hit by traffic. I see them dead along the roadside all the time. All the development has run them out of their homes. So sad. I wished I had 10+ acres just for my plants and all the wild creatures!

Luckily, no feral cats around here .... yet. I hate to see them living in the wild as they are usually not healthy unless someone is feeding and caring for them. My brother caught a momma cat and her 3 babies. They are all now indoor cats and have become much more friendlier. He had them all neutered. He said the mother cat is one of the smartest cats he's ever known. He is now a cat person because of her! LOL!

Glad y'all are enjoying this thread. Gotta love the other creatures that grace our butterfly gardens, too! Especially during the months that there are few butterflies and NO HUMMERS! LOL!
