Making begonias flower

Calgary, Canada

I have an angel wing begonia, and the only time I have gotten it to flower was when I took a cutting of it and left it in water for over a month (I was too lazy to plant it). And the weird thing is, is that this cutting flowered like crazy, even when its roots were covered in mould. Eventually the mould got to it and died. But I have never gotten the mother plant to flower. I have been trimming it back every month to make it more bushy, kept it well watered and in front of a sunny window (gets 1 hr direct sun, 4 hr indirect sun), and add miracle grow every week. I had the cutting in the exact same conditions as the mother plant and it flowered. Any suggestions on making the mother plant flower?

I'm not the expert here, Janina, but I do have 3 angel wings and they are full of bloom all the time. They are outside in 5 to 6 hours of sun each day.

Sigh! Maybe it just doesn't get enough sun. What kind of fertilizer do you use? Do you think they'd flower under grow lights?

Dragon Wings bloom non-stop (looks like Tussee's are some form of DW). Some canes don't bloom as much as others. More light should help.

You might be cutting off the buds when you do your monthly pruning.

Mine didn't bloom either until I gave it one shot of triple 20 and it hasn't stopped. 'course I moved it outside in the sun after that, but it did start blooming early in the year in my bedroom in a South window.
