I walked into my local grocery store here in little podunk Idaho and what did they have hanging in the little plant gazebo but two plain green hoyas!! No ids on them of course. I had just been reading here (somewhere?) about plain green hoya carnosas. Can any of you tell from this picture if that is what I have, or what else it could be? It actually even has two small peduncles on one of the three foot long branches!!! I could try for better pictures if you need them.........

Plain Green Hoya Carnosa
Mercy! Look at what a lovely green color it is! Ya done good girl:)
Congratulations Brenda. A beautiful hoya .
Patti
Nice score, Brenda!!
Karen
Brenda, it looks to me like a H. carnosa called "Krinkle 8"
Brenda...how does it compare to your Grandmothers' hoya?
The leaves look like a not very good clones of H. cv. Krinkle 8 where the 'krinkles' are kinda there but kinda not. Nice plant!!!
So you all are agreeing that this is just a plain green carnosa??
There is nothing "plain" about hoyas to me but I'm not familiar enough with hoyas to know if maybe they were sneaking a different type into the grocery store....LOL
Thanks, Brenda
Looks like I was typing while some others were too! I had wondered about the Krinkle 8 one?? It does have the two little peduncles I mentioned so if I ever get it to bloom I'll have to show them! But I'm still happy with my score from the grocery store in my town of about 5000 in population! LOL

I agree...the first thing that came to mind was H. carnosa 'Krinkle 8'. Nice score!

Brenda, it looks exactly like one of the green carnosas I have. I have a hard time passing up big healthy plants like that, it beats the heck out of waiting forever for flowers!
I've come back without my 2 year old grandson nipping at my heels :)))) and re-read the posts and caught Carol's question about my grandmothers hoya.......Do you know Carol I never even stopped to think that I have a plain green carnosa sitting right here. LOL It is such a dark green and with so many speckles I don't ever think of it as "plain" green carnosa!!
So I put the two plants right next to each other, grandmas on the left and the new one on the right and there is such a huge difference. The new one has smaller "Crinkle" leaves and is much more of a grass green than my "old" heirloom hoya.
Here is a shot taken inside the house this afternoon...

Your certainly right about not passing up a big beautiful hoya Bhavana! I didn't even see the peduncles until I got it home and started to transplant it, those were a huge bonus!!!
Here are the two plants outside in natural light, bright light....
Grandma's wins hands down but I really like my new one too!
~Brenda
Brenda...the darkness of the green really depends on nutrition and light...I would bet that quasi Krinkle 8 will turn dark like your other carnosa. According to the MSN forum, cv. Krinkle 8 is a sport of H. compacta, not H. carnosa....
YES, beautiful leaves!!!
How interesting, Krinkle 8 is a sport of compacta, I enjoy learning something new (to me) each day here on DG!!
Being as my H. compacta is the same deep dark green as my original hoya I will be interested to see what happens with the new kid on the block....new soil, some good Idaho sun and the same fertilizer the others get and I'll watch what happens :))))
And I'll have good "before" pictures to compare any changes to....
~Brenda
Brenda, if I put all of mine in a row you would see the same extreme differences, and 2 of them are growing in the same exact environment, same soil, same fertilizer etc
Your grandmothers hoya's leaves look just like a new one I recently got from someone here, glossy and deep green, the leaves a little thinner than the other 3 solid carnosas I have. It is labeled cv Snowball. The way it is growing, it won't be long before it is huge. I really love the diversity of hoyas, even amoung the "plain" carnosas, which is why I have more than one and probably would purchase another one if it was unique compared to the ones I have. After all, a carnosa was my first hoya love. I will never forget when I first laid eyes on that plant...
Very nice plant Brenda, what a terrific find..
Hi bemedel...congratulations on your unexpected find at the grocery store. That was fun I'm sure. The main reason I am posting is to tell you how beautiful your Grandmother's hoya is. It certainly shows what good care it receives. So very full and healthy looking. I love it. Along with the history, it must be very special to you.
Bhavana I agree with you when it comes to the diversity of the hoyas I have come in contact with so far! The leaves are what draw me the most, with the flowers being icing on the cake, not that I don't like icing :)))) but it's the leaves that keep me coming back for more, no matter what they're named. The look, the feel, the textures, they're amazing!
Thanks TamiF, it was an exciting find for me!
Thank you Snowrose! This "Classic" (thank you Carol for the perfect term!) hoya plant that I have and call Grandma's Hoya was started from my grandmothers original plant that my aunt still has vining it's way around her french doors.I love this hoya because it is beautiful and unique to me. Also because it introduced me to hoyas!! And most of all because it is like having a living heirloom from my Grandmother!
