I guess I never paid much attention before, but for some reason I always thought early morning crowing was associated with the breaking of daylight. I know I have read many suggestions about window coverings etc to keep your roo's from crowing too early.
Now mine start each morning about 4:30ish and it's still dark dark so the light has nothing to do with it. Personally the crowing doesn't bother me. I was raised in the city and the only time I remember crowing is when I would go visit my great grand parents in Tennessee. It's a fond memory that has stuck with me over the years.
So what time does your roo's little "alarm clock" go off in the morning ???

Crowing
When ever he feels like it.
LOL!
We have two silkies that crow. I notice they do it pretty much whenever also! I heard them today around 7am. They also crow a lot around 5 pm. They also do it other times of day and will do it back and forth if we make a similar sound.
Well mine crow anytime they feel like it throughout the day, but I am just curious about the morning thing. Like I said I never paid attention before when I had poultry but these guys start way before daylight comes...lol.
Like many of you, I visit other poultry boards and every now and then someone will pop up with a question on how to get their rooster to stop crowing etc... I've read many suggestions along the lines about covering windows etc... which leads you to believe that the daylight is the trigger. Obviously someone forgot to inform my guys that is the rule...lol.

The crowing from the silkies is at best, comical. I don't think the sound they make could irritate anyone. It's not that loud. There was a rooster behind us that we always said was challenged. It never could quite get the cockadoodledoo sound. It's always sounded like an engine revving or a damaged foghorn. LOL
I guess we are still really enamored with the farm life as I love hearing the sound. Maybe the bigger or different breed birds can be really annoying and we may soon find out. chuckle
I will have to try to pay closer attention and see when they start. Of course I try not to be out of bed any earlier than I have to!
Ok...my rooster used to crow as soon as the sun came up. We put a light on a timer in the coop to help the hens produce more eggs so at 4:30 when the light comes on he starts rowing. The rest of the day is like a timeclock....6am, 8:15, 10:50, 12:30, 2, 4:14, 5:15, 6:15....you get the idea. :) His last crow is nightly just before the sun goes down. GOod thing we enjoy listening to him.
