Hummer & nicotiana

Eureka, CA

The new bed I put in last spring is a hummingbird haven. Grabbed a couple shots of this guy going after my Nicotiana Mutabilis.

Great shots. I love that nicotiana. I have tried growing it and had no luck. Now I really want to grow it. Thanks for sharing. What else do you have in your new bed that the hummers love? I would love to know.

WOW -- nice shot.

i was sitting out having my coffee early this morning and saw my first hummer.
never seen them here before.

then he/she wandered over to the morning glories for breakfast.

first there were 2... not sure if they were gonna mate or get territorial... but then they were gone and about 5 min later the one came back.

I need to plant more plants/flowers that attract them. They surely are amazing lil creatures.

Hi Leslie... I have a number of varieties of nicotiana, as well as some salvia varieties. But the nicotiana seem to be the biggest attractors. And I find they like the natural sources rather than the feeders. Maybe that's just because I have the stuff out there ~ they ignore the feeders! (that, and the woodpeckers peck out the little flower port things, and then the liquid just pours out of the holes.... I've lost quite a few feeders because of them!) Love the hummers.
